Suntory launching DAKARA campaign


Suntory will start a campaign in early May to promote DAKARA, a nutritional sports drink. Free gifts will be given away with each purchase of a 150ml bottle of DAKARA. The gifts include cleansing tissue and a clip for sealing snack packages. The nationwide campaign, dubbed "Life Partner DAKARA," is slated to last for two weeks or until all the prizes run out.

Suntory kicking off "Eco-Brewery Tour"


Suntory will launch an "Eco-Brewery Tour" at its Musashino Brewery on May 11 to promote better understanding of the company's commitment to protecting the environment. During the tour, Suntory staff will guide visitors through the plant and explain the company's recycling efforts.

The tour is free of charge and will be held once a month through 2001. Anyone over the age of 20 is invited to participate. Other free seminars and workshops will be held at Suntory breweries in Musashino (Tokyo), Kyoto and Tonegawa (Gunma Prefecture).

Suntory Tonegawa Brewery Honored for Recycling Efforts


Suntory's Tonegawa Brewery was honored by the Clean Japan Center Foundation on March 22 for its efforts to reduce factory waste and promote recycling. The brewery has taken active role in environmental protection over the last few years and it has worked hard to reduce energy consumption as well as the impact of its operations on the local environment. The plant has also made efforts to improve its relationship with local residents.

Suntory Holding Spring Wine Festival


Suntory will hold a spring festival at its "Noboribi-No-Oka" winery in Yamanashi Prefecture from March 31 to April 15. The festival will feature wine tasting and special lectures on grape varieties and the wine making process. The festival is one of several events planned at the winery this year in order to promote better public understanding of Suntory's wine making operations.

Suntory to Fold Distillery Workshops


Suntory will offer a second round of workshops on whiskey blending at its two distilleries beginning on May 11. The facilities are the "Yamazaki" distillery in Osaka Prefecture and the "Hakushu" distillery in Yamanashi Prefecture. A total of 14 workshops will be given and the events will conclude on June 17. Anyone over the age of 20 is invited to participate. The fee is 10,000 yen and up to 20 seats are available for each workshop.

Suntory Foundation Decides 2001 Funding Recipients


The Suntory Foundation will finance the translation of a total of 10 books into foreign languages as part of its annual effort to enhance international understanding of Japan. Of the 10 works, two will be translated into Korean and three into Chinese. The total amount of this year's financial support comes to 475 million yen.

Each year Suntory funds the translation of works into foreign languages as well as the overseas publication of works in the fields of social and cultural sciences in order to promote cultural exchange and improve international understanding of Japan.

Suntory Marketing MALT'S Super Premium


Suntory will begin marketing MALT'S Super Premium beer on April 17. MALT'S beer has sold well since its initial introduction in 1989 as 'Tarunama,' a specialty beer sold to catering establishments. A 350ml can of MALT'S Super Premium will retail for 243 yen. A 500ml can is priced at 314 yen and a 500ml bottle is priced at 294 yen.

Suntory Forms "Summer Venus" Promotional Group


Suntory has announced the formation of "Summer Venus," a group of six so-called "campaign girls," who will promote a variety of Suntory beer products, including MAGNUM DRY and LOW-MALT BREW. The group will feature in an advertising campaign slated to last from mid-March to the end of August.

Suntory Launching Mobile Online Service


On March 19, Suntory will launch "Zen Navi," a new service to be offered via mobile phones built by NTT DoCoMo. The Zen Navi service provides DoCoMo users with listings of bars and restaurants that serve Zen, a Suntory brand whiskey marketed since 1998. The listings appear on a special Suntory website designed to viewed on cell phones equipped with DoCoMo's "i-mode" communication service, which provides access to the Internet.

Suntory Marketing Spring Health Foods


On March 15, Suntory will add four new items to its Shizen's Chikara (Nature power) line of health food products. All 11 items in the existing product line, plus the four new items, contain "Astazanthin," a powerful antioxidant, in combination with blueberry, gingko, multi-carotene and milled rice. Astazanthin is a health maintenance ingredient having about 1,000 times the supplemental nutritional value of Vitamin E. The Shizen Chikara line will be sold by mail order.

Suntory Launching New "Jack Daniel's" campaign


Suntory will launch a new promotional campaign on behalf of Jack Daniel's "Black" Tennessee Whiskey in early April. Original goods, including a whisky bottle dispenser, whisky glasses, coasters and two recipe books will be given away to 2,000 lottery winners. To enter the lottery, consumers must collect a certain number of proof-of-purchase seals. The nationwide campaign concludes on June 30.

Suntory marketing "Gancia Spumante Brut"


On March 27, Suntory will begin marketing three new selections in its H(ashu) spirit line. The products include grapefruit-flavored H<citrus Cool>, H<chili>, which is flavored with Mexican chili peppers, and lemon-flavored H<lemon>. All three items have an alcohol content of approximately 5%.

Suntory Marketing "Cinzano Vermouth" and "Cinzano Spumante"


Suntory has acquired the sole marketing rights in Japan for Cinzano of Italy. Starting on April 2, the company will begin marketing 5 types of "Cinzano Vermouth" and 3 types of "Cinzano Spumante." Cinzano Vermonte and Cinzano Spumante are presently enjoyed in approximately 120 countries, with their sales comprising a healthy share of the world liquor market.

Suntory Unveils New Noboribi-no-Oka Wine Line-up


On April 5, Suntory will start marketing nationwide 8 different types of wine in its Noboribi-no-Oka Winery Wine Line-up. One of the products, Noboribi 1996, was awarded the top prize at the International Competition in 2000. Suntory has changed the name of the winery where the products are made from Suntory Yamanashi Winery to Suntory Noboribi-no-Oka winery.

Suntory marketing "Gancia Spumante Brut"


On March 27, Suntory will begin marketing "Gancia Spumante Brut" Italian sparkling wine. A 750ml bottle will retail for open price. The product is made by F.lli Gancia & C., S.p.A., which is best known for its popular "Asti Spumante" sparkling wine.

Suntory launching SHIMIJIMI-HORONIGA campaign


Suntory will launch a nationwide campaign to promote sales of its SHIMIJIMI-HORONIGA brand green tea on March 27. The product goes on sale the same day.

During the campaign, the company will give away a fortune-telling seal with each purchase of a 500ml plastic bottle of SHIMIJIMI-HORONIGA. A tea cup will also be given away as a prize .

Suntory Marketing New Shochu Product


Suntory will begin marketing Mugiroku-Sensei, a malt Shochu-based alcoholic drink, on March 13. A 1.8-liter carton container will retail for 1,500 yen. The product features a mild taste and goes well with evening meals at home.

Suntory Expanding Line-up of Canned Spirits


On March 21, Suntory will begin marketing improved versions of two products from its Totteoki kajitsu-no Osake line-up of fruit-flavored canned spirits. The two new products are ume (Japanese apricot) and litchi flavored, respectively. They now feature natural fruit sourced from Kishu and Taiwan respectively, rather than mere flavoring. The new products also now incorporate pure and natural mineral water. A 250ml can will retail for 194 yen. The products were originally introduced in 1996 and have proven popular with consumers.

Suntory Expanding DAKARA sales


Suntory will expand sales of DAKARA, a health/sports drink, in a bottle-shaped can nationwide on March 27. The 410g product will retail for 130 yen.

DAKARA was launched in March 2000. Sales of the product hit an estimated 15 million cases in FY 2000, proving its success with the general public.

Suntory Improves SUPER CHU-HI Line


On March 21, Suntory will begin marketing five improved items in its line of SUPER CHU-HI FRUIT beverages. SUPER CHU-HI is a shochu-based alcoholic drink. The improved products include SUPER CHU-HI <grape>, SUPER CHU-HI <ume>, SUPER CHU-HI <orange>, SUPER CHU-HI <pineapple> and SUPER CHU-HI <litchi>. They are priced at 140 yen, respectively. Suntory sold 14 million cases of SUPER CHU-HI products in 2000, up a whopping 40% from the previous year.

Suntory Expanding MAGNUM DRY Line


Suntory will begin marketing its MAGNUM DRY beer in a unique bottle-shaped can in eastern Japan on April 3 and in western Japan on April 17. The 415ml product will retail for 165 yen.

MAGNUM DRY, a low-malt brew, has been a hit with consumers since its introduction in 1999. Sales more than doubled the next year to an estimated 28.83 million cases. Sales in January and February of 2001 are up approximately 20% year-on-year.
