Suntory Domestic Liquor Plants ISO 14001 Certified
A Suntory liquor plant in Haruna, Gunma Prefecture
acquired ISO 14001 certification on Oct. 25. As
a result, all 14 of the company's domestic liquor
plants have now acquired the certification, which
officially recognizes their environmentally sound
management practices.
Suntory sought out the ISO 14001 certification
to strengthen the structure of its Eco Management
System (EMS). In 1998, the Tonegawa brewery became
the first domestic Suntory plant to receive the
honor.

Signs New Campaign Model to Promote MAGNUM DRY
Suntory has hired a model known by the singular name of Chihiro to endorse MAGNUM DRY light malt beer in print and TV advertisements starting from 2002. Chihiro made her professional media debut this year when she appeared on the front cover of Playboy magazine. The model's exotic features and sophisticated image are said to be consistent with the type of image Suntory wishes to project with respect to the MAGNUM DRY product.

Signs New Campaign Girl to Promote MALT'S
Suntory has hired Ms. Miho Shiroyama to promote MALT'S beer in print and TV advertisements starting from 2002. Ms. Shiroyama made her professional debut in 2000, appearing in several TV commercials and dramas. She was chosen for the Suntory job based on her natural charm and grace.

to Hold Whiskey Blending Workshop
From December 1 to 25, Suntory will conduct a whisky blending workshop at its Yamazaki distillery. Following a guided factory tour, participants will have a chance to blend original whiskies from six base mixtures, which they can then take home. The workshop is open to anyone over the age of 20 and the fee is 2000 yen per person.

Expanding Blue Carnation Line
Suntory will begin marketing new lines of its blue carnation, dubbed Moon Dust, starting on Dec. 11. The new flowers will come in two color variations (lilac and deep blues). Suntory succeeded in developing a blue carnation in 1995 in cooperation with Australian firm, Florigene Pty.Ltd. The new lines are larger in size than the previously introduced Spray line, which went on sale in 1997.

Signs Ichiro to PEPSI Endorsement Contract
Suntory has hired U.S. Major League Baseball player
Ichiro Suzuki to endorse PEPSI in print and TV
advertisements starting from 2002.
The star outfielder will promote the beverage under
the theme: "CHANGE THE WORLD." In addition to winning
American League Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable
Player (MVP) honors, Ichiro set several major league
records this year, including the most hits in a
single season by a rookie.

Expanding Korean Distilled Spirit Line
Suntory will begin marketing KYOUGETSU GREEN, a Korean distilled spirit, in large-size (4-liter) paper pack, beginning on December 4. A pack containing 25% alcohol retails for 3,100 yen, while a version with 20% alcohol sells for 2,820 yen. KYOUGETSU has gained a wide following for its sharp, light taste. Both commercial and domestic consumption of the product has been brisk since it was first introduced to the market in 1996.

Beer for New Year Goes on Sale in Limited Quantities
On December 18, Suntory will begin marketing HATSUNAMA, a low-malt beer, in limited quantities for the year-end and new-year season. The product is made with domestic hops harvested this year, and contains a richer amount of malt, creating a highly aromatic and deeper taste. The product comes in specially designed cans featuring a festive combination of white, red and gold to evoke the new year. Prices are set at 195 and 145 yen respectively for 500ml and 350ml cans.

Launching Malts Super Premium Campaign
From mid-November to January 31, Suntory will hold a promotional campaign for Malts Super Premium beer. During the campaign, the company will give away a Bohemian beer glass to 3,000 applicants. To enter, consumers must collect six proof-of-purchase seals from specially-marked containers of Malts Super Premium beer, and then send the seals into Suntory. Suntory will choose the 3,000 winners at random through a drawing. Each glass will feature the product's logo, as well as the winning applicant's initials.

to be Sold in Special Party Bottles for Limited
Time
On November 27, Suntory will begin marketing its
Nacchan and
C.C. Lemon soft
drinks in specially designed plastic bottles for
the year-end party season. The products will be
sold for only two months.
Nacchan containers
will feature pop art designs of ribbons and stars,
while C.C. Lemon bottles will be adorned with characters from the "Simpson's," a popular animated TV show from the
United States. A 1.5-liter bottle of Nacchan
in both orange and grape flavors will retail for
330 yen, while 1.5-liter and 50-milliter bottles
of C.C. Lemon
will retail for 320 yen and 140 yen respectively.

Improves Cocktail Website
Suntory has improved its "WEB NIGHT BAR" Internet website devoted to cocktails and related information. The new site, which went online Nov. 6, is packed with even more useful information. It includes 400 new cocktail recipes, new product introductions, a cocktail search engine, and an online shopping mall where users can purchase exclusive liquors and spirits. Additional features include a short instructional video on how to make a cocktail, and "MUSIC Bartender," which combines good tunes with good drinks.

Expanding Health Supplement Line
Suntory will expand its "Shizen no Chikara" health
supplement product line from December 18 when it
introduces "Shizen no Chikara Tencha 400 capsules"
and "Shizen no Chikara Tencha 400 extracts". The
new products will be sold via mail order as are
other products in the line.
Tencha (Tian cha) tea contains a specific polyphenol
component that is said to maintain good health.
Suntory researchers recently announced the results
of lab tests that indicate the tea is also effective
in suppressing symptoms related to a dry skin condition
known as atopic dermatitis. A 280-gram bottle of
Tian cha extract and a container of 90 capsules
will retail for 2,200 yen each.

The Great
Cocktails Lineup Expands
Suntory has added a new flavor ("Lejay-Cassis Orange")
to its lineup of popular bottled cocktails dubbed
The Great Cocktails. The product went on sale November
20 and is priced at 230 yen in a 200 ml bottle.
The new item will also be included in a special "variety pack" that contains five other flavors.
The beverages are perfectly suited for year-end
parties and other occasions. A limited quantity
of the variety packs will be marketed from December
4.

Plant Awarded ISO 14001 Certification for Eco-management
Suntory's beer brewery in Kyoto acquired ISO 14001
certification on October 29 on the strength of
its environmentally friendly manufacturing and
management systems. The plant has made a consistent
effort to reduce its consumption of energy, CO2,
and other manufacturing byproducts. The plant is
also pushing for further reductions.
Suntory will begin offering guided tours of the
plant on Dec. 13. The "Eco-brewery" tour will introduce
the public to the positive changes that were made
at the plant to reduce its impact on the environment.
