Suntory to Sponsor Events at Yamazaki Whisky Distillery


Suntory will hold two whisky-themed events at its Yamazaki distillery in Osaka prefecture on October 13 and 14. The first event will be a talk show hosted by popular food critic Takeshi Kadokami, who will discuss single malt whisky. The second event will include free afternoon performances by Yoshie and Osamu Ichikawa, a professional piano-vocal jazz couple. In November, Suntory also plans to conduct whisky-tasting courses at the distillery.

LIPTON MORNING to Make Debut


Suntory will add LIPTON MORNING to its line of Lipton teas. Made from roasted leaves with a hint of coffee, the drink has a mild, refreshing taste. LIPTON MORNING will be available in 1.5l and 500ml plastic bottles priced at 320 and 140 yen, respectively, hitting store shelves nationwide on September 24.

Cranberry to be Added to Line of Sake Products


Suntory will add cranberry to its TOTTEOKI KAJITSU NO OSAKE liquor line, reflecting the recent popularity of this flavor, particularly among women. Debuting on September 10, the new drink will come in 250ml cans that sell for 194 yen.

Suntory to Expand SUPER COCKTAIL BAR Line


Suntory will add an apple and citrus flavor to its SUPER COCKTAIL BAR line, introduced in May 2002 as successor to the company's popular COCKTAIL BAR series. Available from September 10, the new drink will come in 350ml cans that retail for 160 yen.

Suntory Music Foundation Announces Winner of 12th Akutagawa Composition Award


Masakazu Natsuda was named recipient of the 12th Akutagawa Composition Award for his innovative and fresh approach to classical music. Sponsored by the Suntory Music Foundation, the award is given to outstanding composers and includes a cash prize of 500,000 yen.

Suntory Rugby Fan Club Established


Suntory has established "Sungoliath Friends," an official fan club for the company's rugby team. Founded in 1980, the "Sungoliath" team has been playing in Japan's premier league, winning all five major championship games in 2001. To become a member of the fan club, please call 03-5449-7028 for an application form. Annual membership fee is 2,000 yen.

Specially Packaged 21-year-old HIBIKI Reserve Makes Ideal Gift


From mid-December, Suntory will begin marketing its 21-year-old HIBIKI reserve whisky in specially designed bottles. The premium class whisky, packaged in 600ml Arita and Kutani porcelain containers, will make an ideal end-of-the-year or new year's gift. Both products will be priced at 30,000 yen, with sales limited to 1,000 bottles each.

New Ad NAMA Low Malt Beer Features New Version


On September 24, Suntory will begin marketing limited quantities of NODOGOSHI Ad NAMA, a low malt beer that features package advertising. Third in the Ad NAMA series, the package design will publicize "velfarre Cyber TRANCE 05," a new CD released by avex recording studio. The beer will be available in 350ml cans that retail for 125 yen.

Suntory Issues "Eco" Report


Suntory has published its fifth annual ecology report that includes the results of corporate "ecoship" projects, analysis of the company's current ecological status, and future tasks and remedies for maintaining a sustainable society, as directed by The Natural Step, a third-party ecology organization based in Sweden. In 2001, Suntory succeeded in reducing energy consumption as well as CO2 emissions, while maintaining a 100% recycling rate for byproducts and wastes.

Grape Flavor Introduced to NACCHAN Beverage Line


On August 27, Suntory will begin marketing NACCHAN BUDOH (grape) in 500ml and 1.5l plastic bottles priced at 140 yen and 330 yen, respectively, and also in 250ml cartons for 100 yen. A blend of red and white grapes, the beverage has a rich, refreshing taste. Promotional stickers and small memo pads will come attached to individual 1.5l bottles during the introductory campaign period.

BOSS COFFEE Gets New Taste


On September 3, Suntory will unveil five new BOSS canned coffee flavors to meet changing consumer demand. Introduced to the market 10 years ago, the BOSS line of coffee sold 10 billion units last year alone. The five new flavors, including DARK BLACK, MOCHA BRAZIL, FINE ROAST, NEO SEVEN and CAFE AU LAIT, will be available in 190g cans that retail for 115 yen. On the same day, Suntory will introduce BOSS LATTE LATTE, a mild milk coffee, in 200ml cartons priced at 100 yen.

Apple and Pear Flavor to be Added to FRUIT WINE SELECTION


On August 20, Suntory will expand its FRUIT WINE SELECTION by adding a new apple and pear flavor to its popular line of wines. Containing just 4% alcohol, the mild mixture of uniquely combined fruit is best served either cold or on the rocks. Available in 500ml bottles, the product will retail for 580 yen.

Suntory to Hold Grape Picking Festival at Tominooka Winery


From August 23 to October 6, Suntory will hold a grape picking festival at its winery in Tominooka, Yamanashi Prefecture. Through September 16, visitors ages 20 and above who pick over three boxes of grapes will receive as a souvenir a bottle of wine featuring their photo on the label. The latter half of the festival period will include such events as on-stage performances, barbeques and photo contests. For details, please call 0551-28-7311.

Suntory Accepting Orders for 2002 Nouveau Wines


Suntory will begin taking orders for new wines produced in 2002. These include premium class, light bodied red and dry white wines from world famous Georges Duboeuf of France, which are expected to arrive on November 21, as well as Novello red wine from Italy and Austria's semi dry white Heuriger, both of which will be available on November 6. Orders can also be placed for Suntory's original fruit wine selections produced from fresh apples and peaches, in addition to red and white wines from the company's Tominooka winery. These wines will go on sale November 1.
