On December 14 Suntory holds a jazz concert,"WHISKY LIVE in YAMAZAKI 2003," at a whisky cellar in its Yamazaki Distillery to commemorate 80th anniversary of Suntory whisky making. 60 visitors are welcome to reminisce this 80 years while listening to jazz music born in the period and drinking Suntory Pure Malt Whisky YAMAZAKI 12-year old. Suntory to Reorganize Bottling Plants in West Japan

Responding to recent change in market environment Suntory decided to shut down Domyoji Bottling Plant and integrate its functions and employees to Osaka Bottling Plant and other sections as from November 1. As a sole bottling plant in West Japan, Osaka plant will adopt a cutting-edge production system and other state-of-the-art equipments to further strengthen its competitiveness.

From February 3 to March 21, 2004 Suntory Museum of Art exhibits "Waka and Japanese Art -Painting Poetry/Composing Pictures" that introduces rich relation between waka (traditional Japanese poetry) and pictures or artifacts. Today's media as TV, magazines, posters or emails are composed of images and words. Through this exhibition earlier examples of this visual culture could be enjoyed.

25th Suntory Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities to be Awarded

Suntory Foundation this year decided to award the 25th Suntory Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities to 9 candidates that were rising critics or researchers who had expressed their unique viewpoints or standpoints in their works published after January 2002. The candidates had also made distinguished accomplishments in their past writing activities. A memorial plate and one million yen will be granted to each candidate on December 10.

Improvement of Lipid and Alcohol Metabolism by Taking Sesamen Confirmed on Gene Expression

everage Health Science Laboratory together with Prof. Keiko Abe of The University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences confirmed that sesamen increases enzyme gene expression that degrade fatty acid of liver and convert it to energy. Likewise sesamen also increases enzyme gene expression that degrade acetaldehyde generated by alcoholysis. The result will be presented at the 2nd International Nutrigenomics Conference held in Netherlands on November 6 and 7.
