Suntory to release worldwide famed Argentina wines “ Catena ”

Suntory Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka, President: Nobutada Saji) is to release Alamos and Catena series of Catena wine collection from Argentina, starting from 24th of February, 2004 across Japan nationwide.

Catena winery is world’s 5th wine producer, who is also one of the top wineries in Argentina and has been highly appraised for its quality worldwide. The joint venture business with baron de Rothschild of Chateau Lafite Rothschild to produce “ Caro ” in 2000, led Catena winery to leap into world fame. Consecutively, “ Nicholas Catena Zapata ”, which was released in 2001and became the flagship wine of the winery, received 1st award in world’s top class wine blind tasting event and appealed on winery’s high quality standard.

• Features of the product

< Alamos series >
Alamos series is made from selected grapes harvested in Mendoza, a famous wine manufacturing region located in Andes. It offers fruity and rich taste, with the hint of mild barrel aroma.

< Catena series >
Catena series is made from grapes harvested in 3 different self owned vineyards, where each is located on different altitude, in Mendoza. It offers complex and finely balanced taste by blending grapes possessing different characteristics.

• About Catena Winery
Catena Winery is established in 1902, and owns six vineyards at the foot of the Andes, Argentina, harvesting grape varieties in accordance with weather and land suitability. The winery especially has remained its special loyalty on wine making that uses grapes representing Argentina, called “ Malbec ”.

Catena winery manufactured wines only for domestic at first, and has grown to one of the top wineries in Argentina now. Present Catena’s third president, Nicholas Catena Zapata, is aiming for the winery to become “ world famed wine manufacturer in Argentina ”.
