Suntory to release “Hibiki 50.5”

Suntory Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka, President: Nobutada Saji) is to release Suntory Whisky “Hibiki 50.5 (Go-Marugo)” from 11 May 2004 across Japan nationwide.

Using the same long-term maturated malt whisky as “Hibiki 17 Yrs”, “Hibiki 50.5 (Go-Marugo)” has realized the rich taste and aroma by changing a part of the manufacturing process. It will be released as a special version of “Hibiki”, that is the best Suntory whisky.

The professional blenders and other engineers in Suntory’s distillers have wished to deliver the smooth mellowness of whisky fostered over the years, and this led to the realization of “Hibiki 50.5 (Go-Marugo)”

• Feature of Content

“Hibiki 50.5” is the same blended whisky as “Hibiki 17 Yrs”, which has been Suntory’s most exclusive premier whisky enjoyed by many drinkers. It is carefully blended with strictly-selected 30 types of long-term maturated malt whisky with age of more than 17 years, and with grain whisky of also over 17 years. Having it carefully matured in barrels, it is bottled with alcohol content of about 50.5 % without putting into cooling filteration or without almost any added water. The special taste was only enjoyed by blenders during the manufacturing process of “Hibiki 17 Yrs”.

Moreover, the taste of complexity and mildness are added to sweet and elegant maturity, it offers lengthy enjoyment like that of “Hibiki 17 Yrs “.

• About Cooling Filteration

Cooling filteration is to filter whisky by cooling it to 0~5 °C.It is pursued to take out opacity component which will appear when whisky is saturated at low temperature. A cooling filteration method is adopted for many long term maturated whiskies to get rid of this opacity. The flavor component is sourced during the whisky making process or from barrels that elute to whisky during storage. This component is one of the elements that give whisky’s rich and tasty components.

In order to leave behind deep taste and rich aroma of whisky’s maturation included in flavor component, “Hibiki 50.5 (Go-Marugo)” is filtered at a room temperature. Sediment may be sometimes produced, when placed at low temperature or mixed with water. The sediment is natural whisky’s component, and it is not a product quality’s problem.

• Alcohol Content

“Hibiki 50.5” contains alcohol near to that of whisky straightly taken out from barrels without almost any added water, while “Hibiki 17 Yrs” has 43% alcohol content . Its name is taken from the proof that offers fine rich flavor component, which is only given by long term maturated whisky.

To enjoy the naturally rich taste and complex aroma of pure malt whisky, it is recommended to drink “Hibiki 50.5” by “straight” or “half rocks”.
