Haruna Plant of Suntory Obtained the HACCP Certification

Haruna Plant (Location: Gunma Prefecture, Plant Director: Toshiaki Tazawa) of Suntory Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka, President: Nobutada Saji) obtained HACCP from Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in May 25, 2004. HACCP is the International Standard of the Food Safety Management Systems, established in the Food Sanitation Law.

HACCP is the International Standard of Food Safety Management Systems, which is the most highlighted standard around the world. HACCP is an acronym, standing for Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point. It has been applied for milk/dairy products, meat products, retort foods and others. In 1999, HACCP was allowed to be applied for soft drinks. Facing such situation, Suntory conducted activities to obtain the HACCP certification, further improving and strengthening its quality assurance system. Having persisted in such efforts, Hanyu Plant of Nihon Pepsi-Cola Production Company, which is the Suntory's group company, obtained the HACCP certification in October 2001 for the first time in the Japanese industry of soft drinks. Following this, Chitose Plant and Natural Mineral Water Hakushu Plant of Suntory obtained the certification in March and April 2002, respectively. Minamitama Factory of Suntory Foods Co. Ltd., which is the Suntory's group company, obtained it in April 2002. Kisogawa Plant and Tonegawa Plant of Suntory obtained it in July and November 2002, respectively. Following Takasago Plant which obtained the certification in January 2004, the Haruna Plant became the 8th plant to obtain it this year.
