Suntory is to release “Redwood Creek” from E&J Gallo Winery

Suntory Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka, President: Nobutada Saji) is to release 4 types of Californian wine, “Redwood Creek”, from E&J Gallo Winery from September 28, 2004, throughout Japan.

“Redwood Creek” is a wine that suggests a new world-view, based on the concepts of “slow & luxurious life” and “relaxation and peace” in the Californian style. Since its release in 2001, those concepts have been well received among many customers in the U.S. Together with a fruity taste of its grape cultivar, sales volume of “Redwood Creek” rapidly increased in the U.S. market. It was also selected for the 1st rank of “Hot Brands*” among other American wines in 2003.

E&J Gallo Winery is a distinguished winery with history. It is located in Modesto City, California, the U.S. which is well known for wineries. E&J is the only winery in the U.S. which had won the award of “Premio Gran Vinltaly” three times (in 1998, 2001 and 2002) at the prestigious wine competition in Italy called “VINITALY”, for the first time in history. E&J receives high reputation not only for its production and sales volume, but also for its quality.

“Redwood Creek” has rich fruity taste, which is carefully produced by bringing its unique grape cultivar, compared to other Californian wines.

“Redwood Creek Cabernet Sauvignon”
It is a soft and elegant red wine, suggestive of black cherries and cocoa flavors, and with rich taste produced from barrels.

“Redwood Creek Merlot”
It is a smooth red wine, suggestive of flavors of vanilla, mature plums and chocolate.

“Redwood Creek Chardonnay”
It is a dry white wine with soft and smooth taste, with flavors of fresh pears and pineapples.

“Redwood Creek Sauvignon Blanc”
It is a dry white wine with fresh and clear taste, and with relaxing and delicate flavors of tropical fruits, herbs, and citrus.

• About Naming

“Redwood Creek” is named after redwood (a type of redwood called sequoia), which is said to exist only in California around the world, and creek (small rivers). Its label design is drawn with such images.

* Hot Brands refer to brands that are selected by the American liquor magazine, “Market Watch”, for: 1) having grown by 2 digits for 2 consecutive years in the U.S.; 2) having increased sales by more than 20% compared to their previous year and; 3) having sold more than 250,000 cases annually.
