Suntory Opened the Virtual “School of Forests and Water”
- Experience Nature On-line!
Featuring New Contents to Understand the World of Forests and Water -
Starting from Tuesday September 1st, Suntory (Head Office: Osaka City, Japan / President: Nobutada Saji) is opening the virtual version of “Suntory School of Forests and Water”, the environmental education on Nature, especially forests and water, at the company home page (http://suntory.jp/GAKKO/).
This virtual version of “School of Forests and Water” is targeted for schoolchildren, creating the space for the whole family to enjoy and learn about forests and water together.
“School of Forests and Water” was opened at the Suntory programme “Forests of Natural Water” in Kumamoto Prefecture in March 2004, which has been actively working on water cultivation and forest conservation. The programme provides education on the greatness and valuablity of forests and water, instructed by local forestry specialists. It features games, provided by Nature Game Association, so that children are able learn with fun. At present, it is exclusively opened at “Forests of Natural Water” and around a thousand people (both parents and children) mainly from Kyushu have joined (by the end of this August). It has been receiving excellent reputations.
The virtual “School of Forests and Water” functions as a great opportunity for the children all over Japan who were unable to join the programme in Kyushu to experience this educational programme on-line. The on-line website produces a space for these children to increase their awareness towards Nature and learn with lots of fun.
Suntory has been working on environmental conservation, under the company's principle of “harmony between humans and Nature”, as its productions are impossible without the blessings of the Nature. Especially it has focused on the valuablity of water. “Living with Water. Suntory” has been selected as the 2004 company slogan to fulfill the company's social responsibility. With this responsibility, Suntory promises to commit itself on the making of persistent environment and opens “School of Forests and Water” to contribute to environmental education for future generations.

In addition, Suntory promotes environmental education among the company staffs. From April 2004, Suntory will introduce the environmental education programme “Environment e-Learning”*3 through internet. This targets all 12 thousands of Suntory staffs Japan nationwide to increase their knowledge and consciousness towards environment and upgrade their skills for environment management. Suntory anticipates all the staffs to complete this educational programme within the year of 2006. Suntory is also planning to continue its forestry experimental programme, facilitating all of the staffs to lift their consciousness towards forestry conservation.
