December 2004 <Reference> Opening “New Suntory Museum” (provisional title)
SUNTORY MUSEUM (Director : Nobutada Saji / Location : Moto-Akasaka, Minatoku, Tokyo, Japan) will be closed after “Thank you Akasaka Mitsuke - Suntory Museum's Fine Arts Exhibition <Beauty in everyday lives 1975∼2004> (18th Dec.∼30th Dec), and will start preparation for the opening of the new museum in Roppongi from spring, 2007. Suntory Museum first opened in 1961 at Marunouchi and moved to Akasaka Mitsuke in the year of 1975. It was opened as part of contribution to the society and cultural activities, which has been pursued since the establishment of the company, and has continued to uphold the concept of “Beauty in everyday lives” consecutively. It has won widespread high evaluation by its novel edge, especially on exhibitions of Japanese traditional paintings and handicrafts held more than 300 times in domestic and overseas, which were to reexamine world of beauty from our ancestors' inheritance. The new museum will be located on urban center of Tokyo. It will be in part of the “ Tokyo Midtown Project (provisional name)” close to Roppongi area, which is one of the metropolitan city with exceptionally surrounded by greenery. The museum aims to keep exhibiting with core theme of “Beauty in everyday lives”, and also to upgrade its contents to let visitors enjoy more of the museum in the future. Also, it will advocate in creation of spiritually affluent lifestyles through world of beauty and let the visitors to enjoy the sensation of encountering beauty, especially for children and all domestic and overseas visitors.
