Blue Carnation “Moon dust” released in Japan nationwide
- The one and only Blue Carnation in the world -

Suntory Flowers Limited is to expand the sales region of Blue Carnation “Moon dust”, the one and only blue carnation in the world, standard type * with 13 colors to across Japan nation wide from the 8th of February, 2005.

“Moon dust” is developed by Suntory Flowers Ltd. and Florigene, an Australian company, and succeeded to produce blue carnation for the first time in the world with genetically modified technology. It has been sold and well received by many customers of its elegant color since 1997. It was awarded as “Gold prize Good Design Prize” in last November with their extensive development, “Blue Rose”. Blue Carnation was only sold limited in Tokyo metropolitan area, Keihanshin area, and Toukai area, but as the production and distribution structure has completed now, it will be sold across Japan nation wide.

Blue Carnation was also well reputed in North America and Europe, which total quantity sold reached up to 1.4 million sticks in 2004.

<About Moon dust>
•Features of the product
The carnation is basically imaged soft moonlight that tuck up everything on earth. It is available in 3 colors, which are “Lilac Blue” with light reddish blue, “Princess Blue” with deep purple blue, and “Velvet Blue” with velvet kind of elegant deep purple blue. Blue color symbolizes “Happiness” in one of the fairytales called “Blue Bird”. It has been a color that represents “Elegant, Youth & Eternity” from long time ago and also has been used in occasions of parties or gifts.

•Origin of the name
”Moon dust” is named, hoping the carnation gives soft images such as moonlight. Moon symbolizes “productive” which express as motherhood, kindness and affection.

•The language of flowers
“Happiness eternally”

*1 Standard type is 1 large-flowered on 1stalk. Spray type has branched stalks with 3 to 10 small and medium flowers.
