Suntory “Forest of Natural Water” Project
Expands to Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture

Agreement concluded with Shiojiri City and Nagano Prefecture in “Mori no Satooya” project

Suntory Limited will sign a “Mori no Satooya” agreement with Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture in a ceremony on Tuesday, December 20.

“Mori no Satooya” agreements are an initiative by Nagano Prefecture to create new forests. Suntory, recognizing that the goals of this program coincide with those of its own “Forest of Natural Water” project, has decided to sign on to the agreement. With its Shiojiri Winery located in Nagano Prefecture, Suntory will support forestry efforts as part of its “Forest of Natural Water” project on two parcels owned by Shiojiri City.

The Suntory “Forest of Natural Water” project creates partnerships with local communities to cultivate functioning water resource forests and to build forests that protect ecosystems and put people in touch with nature. Suntory started its water resource cultivation projects in 2003 on 102 hectares of national forest around Minami-Aso Gairinzan in Kumamoto Prefecture, and has since expanded this work to Yamanashi, Gunma, Osaka, Kyoto and Wakayama prefectures and beyond.

In line with the Suntory Corporate Philosophy “Resonating with People and Nature,” Suntory is working to protect the global environment, acknowledging that the bounty of nature has provided us with the barley, hops, fruits, water and other raw materials for our products. Suntory is committed to continuing this type of initiative in the future.
