Suntory Acquires Shanghai Foster’s Brewery Co., Ltd

Suntory Limited has completed a contract with Foster’s Group for the complete buyout of their Australian-branded beverage company’s subsidiary in China, Shanghai Foster’s Brewery Co., Ltd.
The agreement met both the desires of the Foster’s Group, which has turned its sights in recent years to its wine business, and those of Suntory Limited, which aims to further strengthen its beer business in China.
Founded in 1993, Shanghai Foster’s Brewery Co., Ltd., manufactures and markets beer in Shanghai. The most popular brand in the brewer’s lineup is “Guangming,” a widely consumed low-priced beer (under 2 yuan) that has become a staple in the commercial hub of Shanghai, located in the northern part of the city.
With these developments, Suntory Group’s share of the Shanghai beer market will increase to about 60 percent, further cementing its position as the No. 1 brewer in the region.
