Suntory Plans Greater Annual Sales of Kuro Oolong Tea
—10 Million Cases Set as Target—
Suntory Limited has revised the projected annual sales of Suntory Kuro Oolong Tea OTPP from an initial plan of 8.5 million cases to 10 million cases, up 161% over the previous year. This beverage, which has enjoyed strong sales, is certified as a "food for specified health uses" in Japan.
Rich in oolong tea polymerized polyphenols (OTPPs), Kuro Oolong Tea has been recognized as a health-promoting beverage for its role in inhibiting the absorption of fat. Research has shown that drinking Kuro Oolong Tea with meals suppresses the increase in triglycerides after meals by approximately 20%(¹), in addition to nearly doubling the amount of fat excreted(²).
Sales have remained extremely favorable in the two years since the beverage was introduced. Having met the initial annual sales target of 8.5 million cases in October, Suntory has raised this year's sales target. One reason for the tea's success is its role in blocking fat absorption, but another factor for its popularity is its refreshing taste, which complements any meal. The tea is now enjoyed by a broad range of consumers.
