Yamazaki, located on the outskirts of Kyoto, is an area known for its superior water. Our fascination and attention to great-tasting water dates back some 80 years. Since then, in order to bring our customers the very best drinks we can, we search out the best-tasting water–and this is one of the things we mean by “bringing water to life.”

Water is an indispensible factor in Suntory’s manufacturing process. To ensure that customers feel good purchasing our products, we pay close attention the quality of the water we use, and we implement various means to maintain top safety standards.

In traditional Japan, everything in nature was considered the home of one god or another. For us, the natural water used in Suntory products is considering “a gift from the mountain gods.” To be worthy of this great gift of nature, we do absolutely everything we can to make sure our water is perfect.

Suntory uses water that flows from the heart of the Kaikomagatake mountain in the Minami Alps. The great taste of this water is purified by a natural process as it rushes over massive deposits of granite. Suntory applies a series of measures to ensure that this water–Suntory Mineral Water–is safe to drink while at the same time maintaining its natural pure state.

We depend on nature for the ingredients that go into great-tasting beer: malt, hops and water. Water in particular is extremely important to us, since it comprises about 90 percent of the brew. With a view to making great-tasting beer, we never stop demanding the very best in water.

Ample water is key to Suntory’s creation of safe products that people feel comfortable with. As a company that utilizes a limited resource, we implement initiatives to use less water whenever we can. We really think about every drop!

The water that falls in the mountains first moistens the earth before flowing to the sea, once again transforming into the rain that falls in the mountains. At Suntory, we feel it is important to integrate our manufacturing process with this cycle of nature, and that’s why we do everything that we can to return the water used in the manufacturing process to nature in its original state.

Water is absorbed into the forest floor, where over a long process it becomes underground water. This means that great-tasting water would simply not be possible without our forests. To cultivate this important resource, we include forest conservation amongst our environmental projects. To us at Suntory, it would be unthinkable to simply use up this resource without giving anything back.

We also run a program of “Outdoor School of Forest and Water” which is designed to teach children about the prime importance of the planet’s water and forests. We offer outdoor excursions to engage children first-hand about the forest and water resources, as well as “travelling classrooms” designed to teach children about water starting with surroundings familiar to them.
