Suntory (China) Holding Co., Ltd. — China

Leading Chinese Companies Introduce Once-through Boilers
Once-through boiler

In June 2010, The Suntory Shanghai Brewery installed 12 small once-through boilers that use natural gas for fuel in its beer plants. This represented an advance for China, where coal-fired boilers predominate. The number of units in operation can be adjusted in response to the steam load, and operating efficiency has been improved to 95% from the less-than-80% figure posted when using large coal-fired boilers. Additionally, by no longer using coal they reduced their CO2 emissions by more than 60%.

Frucor Group — New Zealand

Reducing Waste and Promoting Recycling
Packaging designed with eliminating waste in mind

The Frucor Group's recycling rate has greatly improved over the last 3 years to reach approximately 90%. Frucor has been working on various approaches toward reducing its waste emissions and improve its recycling rate. These include participation in numerous trade organizations in New Zealand and Australia, promoting recycling at public facilities and event spaces, improving packaging design, and funding research and development into container recycling that is based in the local community.

Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd. — United Kingdom

Using Waste Heat from the Distillation Process
Public swimming pool heated with waste heat

Water in the community swimming pool at Bowmore is heated using waste heat resulting from the distilling process. That waste heat is also used to kiln dry green malts, preheat charges to the stills, and heat to our Visitor Centre. Resulting waste heat contributes to reducing CO2 emissions not only at our distilleries, but also for the town of Bowmore.

Château Lagrange S.A.S. — France

Ecological Designation: Awarded Terra Vitis Certification
Terra Vitis certification

In 2005, Château Lagrange received Terra Vitis certification in recognition of its efforts to protect the environment and human health while producing high-quality grapes using ecologically sustainable methods. This is a designation for agriculture as a whole. Thirty vintners including Château Lagrange who are obligated to adhere to strict standards and annual inspections are participants in this environmental initiative.

Louis Royer S.A.S. — France

Effective Use of Water Resources in the Manufacturing Process
Storage tank for distilled cooling water

Louis Royer has been reexamining the water it uses in the blending and bottling processes, and working to reduce its water usage and control the quality of its waste water. Additionally, to protect the environment and conserve energy, the cold water needed in the distillation process is coming from the hot water generated during distillation, which is briefly stored in large tanks and chilled before it gets reused.

Cerebos Pacific Ltd. — Singapore

Environmentally Conscious Plant Completed
New environmentally conscious plant in Thailand

In 2010, Cerebos Pacific opened new plants that give due consideration to the environment in Thailand and Malaysia. The 2 plants use solar cells and energy-saving light bulbs as well as natural lighting. They have also installed low-energy utility systems for managing boilers and air-conditioners, and have adopted mechanisms for reusing the water used on the production line in their sanitary systems. The plants are particularly noteworthy for their energy efficiency.
