Company Overview and Philosophy

The Frucor Group manufactures a wide variety of soft drinks, including energy drinks, fruit juice, mineral water, sports drinks, and dairy beverages. Most Frucor brands are enjoyed in homes throughout Australia and New Zealand, and we are proud to be the market leader for energy drinks in both countries. We have also gained the largest share of the fruit juice market in New Zealand, and have become the second largest soft drink company in the country.

The company is now firmly established in its target markets, and we feel that its driving force lies in our corporate culture, an environment of shared values among all employees. Everyone at the Frucor Group strives to realize the corporate philosophies of "One team," "Straight up," "Value you," "Trailblazing," and "Yatte Minahare—Go for it!" and we believe that this is the key reason we have been able to establish our unique position in this market.

Primary CSR Activities

CSR Management

Ensuring rigorous quality control and food safety standards

Two Frucor plants have been certified to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 22000 standards for quality management and food safety. Our manufacturing subcontractors operate under the supervision of dedicated teams, and we place the utmost priority on upholding quality management and food safety standards.

Continuously improving business operations

Frucor strives toward the company-wide eradication of waste in all areas of our operations, to the extent that 5S and productivity improvement programs for our plant manufacturing processes have won external recognition. Each of our manufacturing, quality control, R&D, finance, IS, and other divisions operate under the "Kaizen (continuous improvement)" principle.

Environmental Efforts

Environment policy

The Frucor Group's environmental policy is specifically designed to uphold the standards set forth by our ISO 14001 certification. Particularly important areas include employee training for raising awareness of environmental issues, upholding all applicable laws and regulations, maintaining product container and packaging life cycles, reducing energy and water usage as well as waste, and promoting recycling.

Promoting waste reduction and recycling

We consider waste reduction a top priority and have taken a variety of steps to promote it. Over the past 3 years, we have greatly increased our recycling rate to approximately 90%. Frucor is associated with several industry organizations in New Zealand and Australia, and promotes waste reduction and improvements in recycling rates, for example, by encouraging recycling in public areas and at event sites, improving our packaging design, and investing in research and development related to local initiatives for container recycling.

Effectively using energy and water resources

In 2009, Frucor conducted an energy audit supported by a government grant, and based on its recommendations we will be implementing energy efficiency improvement measures throughout 2011.
In 2009, we also worked with the University of Auckland School of Engineering to perform a water and liquid waste survey, and used its results to improve line efficiency as part of our continuous improvement plan.

Relations with Customers

Each year, we conduct a customer satisfaction survey—known as the "Coal Face" survey—for our Sales Division staff. This survey provides invaluable feedback about what our customers feel about our company when they have dealings with us, and is a vital tool that we use to improve our level of service.

Relations with Business Partners

We make every effort to use local sources for product ingredients, but our wide range of products sometimes means we must use overseas suppliers. Frucor requires that all suppliers adhere to strict social standards of employee treatment and environmental policies and regulations related to the local environment. To ensure that all product ingredients obtained by Frucor meet our quality standards, we perform rigorous ingredient inspections and onsite audits of manufacturing processes.

Relations with the Local Community

Contributing to the local community

Frucor is an official sponsor of New Zealand's Life Education Trust, a fund that provides health education programs to approximately 250,000 children each year using dedicated mobile classrooms. We also support this fund by providing Frucor products and with our employees' voluntary participation. Frucor is also proactive in fundraising for the South Auckland Trust, with many senior executives taking an active role.

Life Education Trust
Supporting local events

As a corporate citizen of Australia and New Zealand, Frucor supports numerous local events in both countries, and provides product donations and employee volunteers when they are most needed. We are a sponsor of the "40-Hour Famine" appeal, running specific product-based promotions and donating part of our sales from fruit drinks.

Relations with Employees

Promoting workplace safety and health

Promoting workplace safety and health is an important issue throughout Frucor and we afford it the highest priority in all aspects of our business. Frucor works hard to provide employees with a wide variety of occupational training to ensure our employees master appropriate work-related skills, allowing us to maintain a safe working environment. Related key performance indicators are measured and reported each month, and committees periodically report findings to upper management. We also undergo annual third-party audits to ensure we successfully maintain standards.

Supporting employee growth through training and skills development

Skills development is important in all aspects of our business, so each Frucor employee is given an individualized skills development plan. Employees spend on average over 45 hours per year in skills development training. Our manufacturing and distribution divisions follow strict waste elimination principles, leading to continuous improvements and increased team performance.
