Momoyama period

Apart from the tea kettles in refined orthodox shapes, there are many kettles in interesting shapes, such as a large, rice-filled straw bag, a straw hat and Mt. Fuji, which reflect the innovative aesthetic sense of craftsmen in the Momoyama and Edo periods. This tea kettle is in the shape of a braided straw hat with the mesh elaborately expressed. The flat mouth, beautiful curve of the shoulder and the wide bottom add to the kettle's balance and stability. The ears are shaped in the form of pinecones. This tea kettle was presumably cast in the province of Chikuzen in the Momoyama period.
