(Click on the photograph for a larger image.)

Height: 4.0 Diameter: 13.0
Muromachi period

The small round mirror case with a fitted cover has tin-reinforced rims on both the case and cover. On the surface of the cover, plovers playing on a wave-washed beach and flying in the sky are rendered with togidashi-maki-e and cut silver leaf techniques. The background has a pearskin finish of nashi-ji with a dense sprinkling of gold powder. The sides of both case and cover have a pearskin finish with a scattered plover design. The inside of the case has a cresting wave design in maki-e. The mirror has been lost.
