(Click on the photograph for a larger image.)

Height: 8.7 Diameter (rim, base): 47.6, 31.4
Edo period

This plate has a wide flat rim. On the inside, there are large and small white circular marks, which are faintly covered with flowing dark brown glaze. The rim is incised with two wavy lines. The concentric circles on the surface of this large dish reflect an experienced craftsman's handling of the potter's wheel. The dark brown dish is extremely hard. The bottom is flat and bears a reddish fire mark.
