The large octagonal vase with a multicolored overglaze painting has a convex cover with a knob. The portion from the mouth to the center of the body is eight-faceted. On the shoulder, auspicious dragons and phoenixes are painted on a deep green ground. The lower part of the body has four painted. The shape of the foot resembles jointed bamboo. The overglaze painting primarily uses red and green with an additional touch of gold done with elaborate brush strokes. The coloration is bright and luxurious. This is one of the large Imari ware masterpieces exported to Europe in the latter half of the 17th century.
