The bowl and cover are squarish in shape with rounded corners and edges. On the surface of the exquisitely shaped cover, a thick clump of pampas grass is painted in white overglaze and cobalt blue pigments. The inside of the bowl is coated with white slip,on which a decorative lattice pattern reminiscent of sarasa batik is painted with cobalt blue pigment. The bottom surface of the bowl bears the signature "Kenzan" . This is one of the most highly regarded covered bowls made by that artist.
