Edo period
This vessel has a round, full shape from which the rim rises; the interior is slightly narrower. The base is level, making it quite unusual in shape. Thick feldsparic glaze was applied to the interior and iron glaze to the edge of the rim. There is no glaze on the lower part of the vessel, and the reddish color of the clay is visible. A design of water plants, trees, and flying birds painted in light, flowing brushstrokes encircles the jar. Judging from the close resemblance between this design and motifs found on excavated pieces, it is believed that the jar came from Koraidani, part of the Taku kiln group.
