(Click on the photograph for a larger image.)

Height: 8.1 Diameter(mouth, foot): 30.6, 16.1
Edo period

With its rim turned slightly outward, a relatively deep interior, and a high and slightly tapered foot, this dish looks rather like a bowl. In the center is a round, unpainted area; a saya (fret) pattern in underglaze blue enclosing cloud motifs extends from this white area all the way to the rim. The brushstrokes used to delineate the motifs are fluid and unbroken. The underside of the dish is decorated with bellflowers placed at three points and connected by arabesque scrolls. The foot bears a comb-tooth motif.
