The octagonal form of this dish was skillfully created by the use of a mold. The walls rise rather steeply to an everted rim, whose narrow edge is turned shapely upward to create a crisp outline. The foot is circular, with the eight faceted sides of the plate projecting from it. In the center of the dish is the character "kotobuki"(longevity), rendered in reserve against an area of deep cobalt blue glaze and surrounded by eight jewels. Various treasure motifs fill the remaining space. The multi-color designs are rendered in blue, red, green, and yellow, creating a gorgeous display. Depictions of peonies decorate the outside of the dish, one placed on each of the eight sides. On the foot is a comb-tooth design. As can be seen by the underglazed edge of the foot, a high-quality white clay was used for the porcelain body.
