This cut-glass bottle with bright, cobalt blue overlay is decorated with a hexagonal wickerwork pattern in which the facets bear a combination of hempleaf and fish-scale patterns. A distinct feature of the decoration is the placement above and below the wickerwork pattern of a design of connected ellipses, which are, in turn, textured with a hailstone motif. The top of the stopper is ornamented with a spiderweb design, and the round, jewel-shaped knob below is made of blue glass. The decoration on the body renders the work unique among decanters of this type, and the excellence of both stopper and bottle makes this decanter a superior example of Satsuma cut glass.
