With bewildering evolution, western art brought versatile creations during the 100 years from the last half of the 19th century through the mid-20th century. This exhibition examines works from this era known as “modern art” to highlight the rich fruit from three domains; “impressionism”, “20th century representational painting”, and “20th century experimental art”. Impressionists discovered the playfulness of light and colors in daily surroundings with their swift brushes; the field of representational painting produced Redon, Rousseau a.k.a. a customs officer, Chagall and other distinctive artists; and, progressive artists like Picasso, Kandinsky and Klee explored new innovative forms. One can hardly believe that their amazing diversity all came to life merely in a century. Among the features are eight works by Monet including six of the London Series, ten works by Pissaro, Morandi and Fontana to demonstrate the artists’ career progress, and a showcase of floral expressions by Rouault, Laurencin and various artists.
