Following the completion of the Suntory Hall, Maestro Herbert von Karajan, who had recommended the vineyard configuration and also took part in the evaluating of the acoustics of the hall, expressed his views in the following manner: "I was deeply moved by the outstanding sounds of the hall. It is truly a jewel box of sound"; and sent the message written on the board on the right picture to Keizo Saji, the first President of Suntory Hall.
In October 2006 Suntory Hall forged a partnership with the the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, the society which operates the Musikverein, home to the Vienna Philharmonic, for the purpose of exchanging projects and concepts in order to promote the music cultures of Japan and Austria. The photo on the right is the plaque on the foyer wall marking the partnership of the two organizations. (A similar plaque was unveiled at the Musikverein in February 2007.)
