Opening Night 2020

Produced by Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi

— Ludwig van Beethoven: Cello Sonatas

The opening performance in 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth and the

10th installment of Suntory Hall’s Chamber Music Garden. Beethoven’s five cello sonatas that

represent his creativity from his early to middle and late periods are considered on par with

J. S. Bach’s Cello Suites and are often referred to as the cellist’s bible. Joined by Mami

Hagiwara on her faithful piano, the stage will open with a special production of three

performances from the Beethoven complete cello sonata series to illustrate Beethoven’s

transition in style from period to period all in one night.

Since 2013, we have invited students of special schools in wheelchairs, who rarely get a chance to see live performances at concert halls, to come to

allowing them to intimately feel the chamber music with the entire body.
