Suntory Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka, President: Nobutada Saji) is to release a new brand of Chile wine, "VIÑA MAIPO" (8 types in 3 series), from August 24, 2004 throughout Japan.
"VIÑA MAIPO" is Chile wine with fruity taste, produced by maximizing characters and features of grapes. It marked the sales record of around 120,000 cases in 2000, which increased by 5 times to around 570,000 cases in 2003. It is one of the brands that have been a focus of attention, by Europe in particular, for its high quality. "VIÑA MAIPO" Company estimates that "VIÑA MAIPO" will be positioned among the top 4 brands of imported Chile wines.
Since its establishment in 1948, "VIÑA MAIPO" Company has continued to produce wines that maximize characters and features of grapes. It has actively introduced the modern facilities and wine-making techniques, producing wines that are in high quality and full of fruity taste. After it came under the umbrella of "Conchay Toro" in 1968, "VIÑA MAIPO" continued to pass on the traditional idea of producing wines. It became possible to procure and carefully select grapes, suitable for producing wines, from the vast vineyard of around 4,000 hectares owned by "Conchay Toro" Group. This allowed "VIÑA MAIPO" to stably produce wines with certain quality and taste.
"VIÑA MAIPO" Company hopes to provide wines that are valuable to customers by introducing "VIÑA MAIPO" to the Chile wines' portfolio. The portfolio includes "Los Vascos" and "Santa Carolina" which have been conventionally sold by Lafite Group.
It was established in 1948 in Maipo Valley, Chile. The location is well known for its famous distilleries that represent Chile wine. Even after it came under the umbrella of "Conchay Toro" in 1968, VIÑA MAIPO has continued to produce wines with the idea of placing value on characters and merits of individual grapes.
