Suntory Wine International Limited proudly announces that Tomi Noble d'Or 2002 was awarded a gold medal at the 55th Ljubljana International Wine Competition (May 29-June 1 2009, Slovenia). Among other gold medal winners, the wine was also recognized as the best Japanese wine
Tomi no oka Winery is currently celebrating a century of grape cultivation that began at Tomi Farm in Yamanashi Prefecture in 1909. Over the years, many types of wine satisfying the delicate Japanese palate have been produced from grapes ideally suited to this natural setting, in the belief that superior wine comes from superior grapes. 1975 marked the first harvest of noble rot grapes in Japan, which led to the first domestic noble rot wine three years later, Noble d'Or 1975. The prizewinning Tomi Noble d'Or 2002 will be available for purchase next spring.
A year of favorable weather at Tomi no oka winery in 2002 produced an excellent harvest of noble rot grapes. Patient, careful aging and fermentation at low temperature has brought out the richness of the complex, full aromas that noble rot wine is prized for. On the palate, there is a honey-like sweetness and mellowness. Sophisticated, rare, and exquisite.
