Suntory Museum of Art & Suntory Hall
Covering All Annual Electricity Usage with Renewable Energy
Operation Using Natural Energy Resources Starts January 2011
As of January 2011, Suntory Holdings is covering all of the electricity used at the Suntory Museum of Art (Minato-ku, Tokyo, Curator: Shingo Torii) and Suntory Hall (Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi) with renewable electricity using the Green Power Certification System*.
These efforts mean that these facilities will be viewed as having used renewable energy sources through Suntory's purchase of Green Power Certificates issued by Energy Green Co., Ltd**. The annual electricity use of about 2.5 million kWh at the two facilities will be covered with renewable energy.
Fostering the corporate message that "Suntory, Bringing Water to Life," Suntory has been promoting corporate activities that emphasize balance with the natural environment since its founding. To contribute to the achievement of a sustainable global environment, Suntory will establish "the environment" as a key pillar of its corporate management strategy, and will make further efforts to promote environmentally responsible management.
- * What is a Green Power Certificate?
Renewable energy refers to energy generated from "natural energies" created through the bounty of nature, such as solar power, wind power, and hydro power. Under the Green Power Certification System, an energy user can purchase certificates as appropriate based on their energy usage, and the amount they pay will be provided to natural energy businesses, such as solar and hydro power generation businesses, so it equivalent to if the user had used renewable energies. Green Power Certificates are issued upon certification by a third-party institution whose reliability has been confirmed.
