Suntory Beverage & Food Limited Awarded Position on the CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index (the Climate “A” List) for the Second Year Running

Suntory Beverage & Food Limited (SBF) has been awarded a position on the Climate “A List” of the Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) in the CDP Global Climate Change Report 2015 announced on Wednesday, November 4, at the United Nations University U Thant International Conference Hall (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). SBF has achieved this position for its actions to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the business risks of climate change.

CDP is an international, not-for-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental information. The CDP sends questionnaires on climate change information to 822 institutional investors across the world, representing a total of US$95 trillion in managed assets. It then makes assessments based on the reported information and publishes the results. SBF was assessed as being in the top 5% of the surveyed companies, and became one of the 113 companies to make it onto the “A List.”

As a corporation that is sustained by the great bounty of nature, SBF believes it is duty-bound to alleviate the burden placed on the environment. SBF has set up the "Target toward 2020*1" as part of Suntory Group’s "Environmental Vision toward 2050," which aims to pass down a sustainable global environment to the next generation based on the pillars of "preserving and regenerating the natural environment" and "reducing environmental impact."

*1(1) Reduction of the water used in own factories for cleaning and cooling of production equipment and containers by 42%*2

 (2) Reduction of CO2 emissions in the value chain by 25%*2. This will be achieved by further lightening containers, using recycled materials and plant-derived materials in the containers, and by proactively introducing the most energy-efficient vending machines in the country.

*2 Reduction in per unit production based on the business areas in 2007

The excellent result in the CDP Japan500 Climate Change 2015 Report can be attributed to recognition of the corporation’s actions to reduce the burden on the environment and to disclose environmental management information. SBF will make further advances in environmental management under the group’s corporate philosophy "In Harmony with People and Nature."
