THE ART OF JAPANESE PEOPLE

Azukaru, Takusu, Awaseru: to be bestowed with, to pass on, and to blend.

"The art of whisky-making must always follow the art of nature".
The best Japanese artisans know never to add or to take away, but only to heighten the beauty and spirit that lives deep within each and every ingredient. They are humble enough to acknowledge that their art can only be as great as the intrinsic richness of each of their ingredients.

In 1923, Suntory founder, Shinjiro Torii, envisioned a whisky filled with the essence of Japanese nature, hand-crafted by artisans through a patient process of enhancing the work of nature, thus creating a whisky that would suit the palate of the Japanese and perfectly pair with their gastronomy.

As heirs of Torii's vision, Suntory artisans transcend their skills and craft. Theirs is a way of life handed down from one master artisan to another. Their love and respect for nature and their obsession with quality transform a mere process into a sacred ritual.

There is a surprising humility that exists within their art, whether in the blending or in the distillation. At every stage in creating the whisky, it is this relationship between their craft, nature and humility that inspires them in their uncompromising pursuit of taste.
