14 September 2010
On the evening of September 14th, at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to France in Paris, Suntory Whisky presented The Art of Japanese Whisky. Co-hosted by the Japanese Ambassador to France, Mr. Yasuo Saito, the event was attended by a select group of prestigious guests including renowned CEO’s, designers and artists from around the globe. This event was held not only to share a unique savoir-faire, but to further explore the cultural and economic exchanges and challenges between France and Japan.
A pioneer of Japanese whiskies since 1923, Suntory has achieved the ambition and vision established by its founder, Shinjiro Torii. Connoisseurs outside Japan regard its whiskies amongst the best in the world. Eighty-seven years after its debut, it is Paris, recognized globally as a center for the arts, culture and gastronomy, which the company has selected as its platform for future expansion outside Japan.
Suntory Influencers' Nils Tavernier (Documentary Film Director), Thierry Hernandez (Director of the Bar at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée) and Daniel Rose (Chef and Owner of the Restaurant Spring) all came together to present their “Art” and personal collaborations with Suntory Whisky.
Amongst the enchanted setting of the Japanese Ambassador’s residence, and inspired by the profound passion of Suntory artisans and its influencers, guests spent a truly magical evening discovering and embracing the allure of Japanese culture through a completely different kind of whisky and a completely different way to enjoy it.
For the first time, the House lifts the veil on its history, culture, expertise, and the palette of unique and refined flavors of its whiskies. Suntory presents The Art of Japanese Whisky through the eyes of three exceptional Influencers. The vision of Nils Tavernier's humanist view presented in a documentary film about the making of whisky and Suntory's artisans. The creativity of Thierry Hernandez through the Suntory whisky tasting ritual and his creation of surprising cocktails. The audacious tastes of Daniel Rose through his innovative cuisine and unexpected combinations uniting the culinary arts and Suntory whiskies.
