Our visionary Beam Suntory entrepreneurs have driven our Beam Suntory brands for centuries. In 1795, Jacob Beam, farmer and grain mill operator, produced the first barrel of whiskey. This barrel would become Jim Beam, the world's #1 bourbon brand, which is currently overseen by seventh generation Beam family Master Distiller Fred Noe. Suntory was established in 1899, when founder Shinjiro Torii started producing sweet wines. He then went above and beyond to produce the first Japanese whisky. Today, Suntory is a leading whisky distiller in Japan and is known for its flagship single malt whiskies Yamazaki and Hakushu, and the blended whisky Hibiki. Suntory has at its core a "Yatte Minahare" spirit that encourages its team to dream big and pursue new possibilities. We are the second-largest spirits company in the US, where we craft our industry-leading bourbons, led by renowned brands Jim Beam and Maker's Mark. In the US, we're sharply focused on cities as sources of industry growth and growing drivers of premium products sales.
Our whiskies are gaining a very strong reputation from consumers around the world for their quality and craftsmanship. We are the market leader in Japan, where we craft our Japanese whisky brands; there, we are continuing to create new consumption occasions for whisky, fueling sales of Japanese whisky and firmly establishing bourbon as a growth platform.
We possess strong positions across major developed spirits markets, including large bourbon export markets of Australia, which anchors our strength in Oceania, and Germany, our largest market in Europe. We're also building our position across developed markets in the United Kingdom, where bourbon is growing in popularity, and Spain, where Larios Gin gives us a significant growth platform.
Key emerging markets drive significant value for our company. In India, we are leveraging Teacher's Scotch Whisky and its leading position in one of the world's biggest Scotch markets to drive growth.
