The rim is everted, the lower part of the body tapering sharply towards the foot. The broad, tall foot has been cut to produce a flared bottom. The body is decorated in underglaze iron, with irises on one side and reeds and other plants sketched in swift brushwork. Fine crackles have developed in the tawny glaze applied to the interior and exterior. The red unglazed clay is visible around the foot; brown fire marks are visible in part of the interior of the bowl, which is thought to be a product of the Inchinose Kōraijin kiln in Imari City, Saga Prefecture.
