Suntory Beverage & Food Limited
Recognized as both CDLI and CPLI
in CDP Japan500 Climate Change 2014 Report

Suntory Beverage & Food Limited (SBF) has been awarded a position on the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) as well as the Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) in the CDP Japan500 Climate Change 2014 Report announced on Wednesday, October 15 in Tokyo. SBF has achieved the former position for its actions to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the business risks of climate change, and the latter position for its disclosure of robust climate change information. The scores for SBF were as follows.

    CDLI: Score of 99
    CPLI: A Grade
SBF is one of the 15 companies that have achieved a position on both the CDLI and CPLI.

CDP is an international, not-for-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental information. The CDP sends questionnaires on climate change information to 767 institutional investors who represent over 6,000 companies worldwide, 500 of which are in Japan; a total of US$92 trillion in assets. It then makes assessments based on the reported information and awards companies that excel in disclosing information with CDLI status, and companies that excel in climate performance with CPLI status. The scores for SBF were as follows.

As a corporation that is sustained by the great bounty of nature, SBF believes it is duty-bound to alleviate the burden placed on the environment. It has set up the "Target toward 2020*1" as part of Suntory Group’s "Environmental Vision toward 2050," which aims to pass down a sustainable global environment to the next generation based on the pillars of "preserving and regenerating the natural environment" and "reducing environmental impact."

*1 (1) Reduction of the water used in own factories for cleaning and cooling of production equipment and containers by 42%*2
  (2) Reduction of CO2 emissions in the value chain by 25%*2. This will be achieved by further lightening containers, using recycled materials and plant-derived materials in the containers, and by proactively introducing the most energy-efficient vending machines in the country.
*2 Reduction in per unit production based on the business areas in 2007

The excellent scores achieved in the CDP Japan500 Climate Change 2014 Report can be attributed to recognition of the corporation’s actions to reduce the burden on the environment and to disclose environmental management information. SBF will make further advances in environmental management under the group’s corporate philosophy "In Harmony with People and Nature."
