Opens at 10 a.m. on May 18

The Summer Festival commemorates its 30th anniversary. “The Producer Series 2017” features Mr. Morihide Katayama, a professor at Keio University who is also active in the field of music as a critic and a commentator. Under the theme “re-discover JAPAN”, we will introduce some works of Japanese composers from before/during/after the World War II era that should be re-evaluated now. “The 40th International Program for Music Composition” will welcome an Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas as the theme composer, who draws international attention these days as the genius. We will premiere the commissioned work with others to show his unique musical world. Known as the gateway to a success for the up-and-coming composers and famous for its unique way of public screening, “The 27th AKUTAGAWA Award for Music Composition” will also be held. Please do look forward to this year’s Summer Festival that offers a wide variety of programs.
