53rd Japan Packaging Competition (JPC)



My Bottle Drink drop, the thermos bottle developed by thermos KK for its container and by Suntory Beverage & Food Limited (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Nobuhiro Torii, hereafter "SBF") for its flavor, has been awarded the top prize of the METI Minister's Award at the 53rd Japan Package Competition (hereafter, "JPC;" sponsor: Japan Federation of Printing Industries).

The JPC is a competition for product development and unique designs selected from among products released in the preceding year stressing marketing concerns such as convenience, functionality, environmental friendliness, and design. The METI Minister's Award is the top honor at the JPC and is conferred on products whose packaging is comprehensively excellent and which offer the most social and economic value.

● Main Evaluation Points

    - Attention focusing on the personal bottle concept, which makes it possible to carry one's favorite beverage in a bottle and embodies the desire for economy and environmental friendliness.

    - Development of a container which is easy to fill and reduces waste, jointly developed with Thermos KK.

    - Designs conveying the characteristics of twelve flavor varieties such as tea, coffee, and fruit juices in a small space.

    - Development of flavors able to be both heated and cooled and which can be added to one's desired degree of strength.

    ● About My Bottle Drink drop

    SBF, a company which aims to create new demand in the soft drink market; and Thermos KK, a pioneer of vacuum bottle technology and company seeking to further increase the spread of personal thermos bottles; shared the idea for and jointly developed My Bottle Drink drop. The product was developed as a next-generation soft drink beverage which makes it possible to enjoy great flavor with a dedicated personal thermos bottle even after extended periods of time, using new technology applying the product development abilities cultivated by SBF and Thermos in the soft drink and vacuum bottle industries. Since its advance release in November of last year, My Bottle Drink drop has been favorably received, particularly among women. The product has been highly praised for the new drinking style it offers, with consumers stating that the fragrant scents of the beverage from special wide-mouth bottle are strong and delicious, that they like the wide variety of flavors to choose from, that the they savor the flavor whether drunk hot or cold, and that the unique preparation method makes creating a drop beverage fun.

    About the Japan Packaging Competition

    The JPC is sponsored by the Japan Federation of Printing Industries. Started in 1962, the JPC is a product packaging exhibition which evaluates and awards excellence in the commercial packaging of products sold on the market. In addition to 10 organizations such as printing business organizations participating in the JPC as members, the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and others support and administer the exhibition. Awards include the METI Minister's Award, the METI Manufacturing Industries Bureau Director's Award, the METI Commerce and Information Policy Bureau Director's Award, the Japan Package Design Association Award, the Japan Packaging Institute President's Award, the Japan Marketing Association Award, the Japan Promotional Marketing Institute Award, the Japan Department Stores Association Award, the Japan Federation of Printing Industries Chairman's Award, category awards, and honorable mention awards.
