To us Suntorians, "Yatte Minahare" has deep significance. If you say you want to do something, the answer is "Yatte Minahare." In reality, you will be asked questions like "Have you really thought this all the way through?" and "Is this something you're truly passionate about?" It's not merely about ideas, it's about strong will and passion. When it comes to execution, because of all the difficulties one faces in order to reach one's goal, this demands emotional toughness and a refusal to be overcome by any obstacle or hindrance. Whenever there's a contest, you need a fierceness that will not accept losing to your opponent. You also need strong tenacity of purpose to achieve your goals, and indomitable will. They just take seven Japanese characters to write, but these words passed down by our forebears since our founding incorporate the true spirit of a Suntorian.

Some prime examples would include the challenge we faced in establishing a Japanese whisky business, which everyone said was impossible; getting our beer business into the black after continuous years of losses by developing Premium Malt's; our strategy these past few years of producing whisky highballs, which you are all familiar with; and the challenge of becoming a global company that is authentically Japanese, which is something we are working on right now. All of these challenges were gifts we received through the Yatte Minahare spirit. As you will see as you browse our employment website, the Yatte Minahare spirit is something each and every employee continues to cherish and uphold in his or her work, even to this day. What's more, it is the younger generation that is carrying the torch. One manifestation of the Yatte Minahare spirit is being able to take on major responsibilities and challenges from a young age.
Our corporate culture places great value on the Yatte Minahare spirit. To put it another way, we have a free-spirited culture that is open to challenges and the exchange of any and all ideas. That's why, at Suntory, the human resources we want are people unafraid of challenges, people who can think positively about any situation, people who see things through out of a sense of ownership, people who approach their work with a sense of joy and excitement, people who are able to prioritize team results over personal gain, and people who have gratitude toward their circumstances and their peers.
Because we promote diversity management at Suntory, we envision our company being a place where diverse human resources can cheerfully work together and inspire each other without any distinction regarding nationality, gender, or age. What that means is that rather than pursuing a specific type of employee, we expect our company to be an assembly of unconventional people full of individuality.
Suntory, a future employer for many of you students, has greatly expanded its operations around the world, and we face competition at a global level. We want to build "a global company that is authentically Japanese" that is brimming with the uniqueness and creativity of Suntory and can beat the global competition. Our new approach to that is the Suntory People Way. It describes our thinking and approach to the human resources of Suntory that have been handed down from our company's founding, and lies at the heart of all our activities related to human resources. Refusing to change even in an era of drastic change, continuing to follow the Suntory People Way, and developing our business even further will help us achieve our goal of becoming "a global company that is authentically Japanese." Our future recruits will be the ones who build the global Suntory. If you're the kind of person who finds joy and excitement in his or her work, we want you to come knocking on our door.
A veteran employee once said, "The important crossroads of my life were unforeseen crossings." When I look back upon my own experience, I think he hit upon the truth. I take his words to mean that life's major turning points and encounters don't happen by chance, but by thinking seriously and positively, and by giving our best effort despite our fears. By placing value in those encounters, we open up new possibilities. It is my hope that you will have some wonderful encounters during your search for employment, and that your encounters with Suntory will also be wonderful.
