Suntory Beverage & Food Limited is pleased to announce it has been named on the CDP Water Security A List for 2021. This marks the sixth consecutive year of being selected as an A list company by CDP, an international non-profit organization that offers an environmental information disclosure system.
CDP's annual environmental disclosure and scoring process are widely recognized as the global standard of corporate environmental transparency. This fiscal year, more than 590 institutional investors with total assets under management of US$110 trillion and 200 major purchasers with US$5.5 trillion total in procurement spend were requested to disclose environmental information through the CDP platform. A record number of about 13,000 companies complied with the request.
Suntory Beverage & Food Limited views this year’s CDP Water Security 2021 honor as a recognition of the overall success of Suntory Group’s unique efforts at combining research and production through “Mizu To Ikiru,” including not only the group’s water conservation activities based on its Sustainable Water Philosophy, such as the hydrological cycle surveys conducted by the Suntory Institute for Water Science and the use of water cascading at its plants※, but also its efforts in local communities, such as water risk assessments conducted worldwide on areas around watersheds, science-based Natural Water Sanctuary activities to cultivate water resources, worldwide Suntory Mizuiku-Education Program for Nature and Water, and certification by the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) for sustainable water use at the watersheds around its plants.
※Cascading is a technique that classifies water used in the manufacturing process by grade (degree of cleanliness), such as water for cooling, water for cleaning, etc., and reuses it in stages, passing it from applications in which the highest grade is needed to applications for which the next lower grade will suffice.
Guided by “Mizu To Ikiru,” its promise to society, Suntory Beverage & Food Limited has dedicated years to “preserving and regenerating nature,” “reducing environmental impact,” and educating future generations through the Suntory Mizuiku-Education Program for Nature and Water.
As a group of more than 300 domestic and international companies that all share the same philosophy, the company will continue to pursue activities in a way that best suits each local environment while contributing to the conservation of its business’s most precious resource-water.
