Suntory Beefing-Up Italian Food Operation


On August 1, Suntory will transfer its Italian food operation to Monte Bussan, a trading firm that specializes in importing Italian wine and food, to further strengthen its Italian food business in the domestic market.
Suntory distributes various Italian food products, including Antonio Amato pasta, illy brand espresso coffee and LA BONTA canned tomatoes, to Japanese consumers .

Suntory to Establish BAR NAVi on i-mode Website


On June 5, Suntory will establish a search site dubbed "BAR NAVi" on NTT DOCOMO's i-mode website. "BAR NAVi" will provide consumers with useful information, including the names and locations of 7,000 bars across Japan, based on the company's nationwide sales network. Consumers can easily locate bars and clubs to match their budget and taste.

Suntory to Release Findings on "KAKYOKU" fruit essence


"KAKYOKU" fruit essence, a derivative of a rose plant genus found in China, effectively controls the generation of melanin, or aging spots, on the human skin, according to research conducted by Suntory and Kanebo, a major Japanese cosmetics maker.
Suntory plans to announce the finding at the annual meeting of the Japanese Dermatological Association (May 26 - 28). Ms. Taeko Iino of Suntory read a paper on the therapeutic effect of "KAKYOKU" fruit essence when taken orally
The joint scientific study carried out by Suntory's Institute for Fundamental Research and Kanebo revealed that "KAKYOKU" fruit essence effectively controls melanin generation. Kanebo has already placed "KAKYOKU" fruit essence-based cosmetics on the domestic market.

Suntory to Exhibit Masterpieces of Emile Galle


The Suntory Museum of Art will exhibit masterpieces of Emile Galle, one of France's most famous glass artists, from July 11 through August 27.
The museum will display 111 glass works produced by Galle during the zenith of his career from 1889 to 1900.

Suntory to Expand DAKARA Health Drink Line


Suntory will begin marketing its DAKARA health drink in a 1.5 litter plastic bottle on June 13. The product will retail for 330 yen.
Suntory is expanding its health drink operations, encouraged by the fact that an estimated 2.5 million cases of DAKARA have been sold since it was launched in March of this year.

Suntory Launching Three-Beverage Campaign


Suntory will conduct a promotional campaign for PEPSI COLA, BOSS [MD] (canned coffee) and NACCHAN (juice and candy) from mid-June through the end of August.
The company will give away several original products during the campaign period. They include a "PEPSI Premium Dispenser" (to 20,000 applicants), Sony MD Walkman with a "BOSS logo (to 10,000 applicants) and a "NACCHAN Happy Bucket" containing small knickknacks, such as aprons, tote bags and cups, all marked with the NACCHAN logo (to 400,000 applicants) .

Suntory Holding Special MAGNUM DRY Campaign


Suntory will hold a special promotional campaign for its MAGNUM DRY beer from June 10 through July 31 to celebrate the product's first anniversary. The company will give away the latest model of Sony's VAIO laptop computer to 100 applicants and Sony's AIBO, a toy dog robot, to 50 applicants. In addition, Suntory will give away cases (each case holds 24 cans) of MAGNUM DRY to 10,000 applicants.
Suntory launched MAGNUM DRY on June 10, 1999 and has marketed 20 million cases in ten months. It became one of the biggest products in the beverage industry .

Suntory Introducing 10 Wines


Suntory will start selling Robert Weil Riesling Spaetlese 1999 white wine from May 30. A 750 ml bottle of the product will sell for 4,500 yen. Also, Suntory will add an apple flavor to its Vino Vino sparkling wine line from June 13. Vino Vino Apple will retail for 380 yen and 210 yen for 360 ml and 180 ml bottles, respectively. On June 6, Suntory will release six French wines and an Australian wine. The French wines will include Robert Skalli Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 (red full-bodied, 1,400 yen/750 ml), Robert Skalli Merlot 1998 (red full-bodied, 1,400/750 ml), Robert Skalli Chardonnay 1998 (white dry, 1,400 yen/750 ml), Fortant de France Viognier 1998 (white dry, 970 yen/750 ml), Calvet Premiere Bourgogne Pinot Noir 1998 (red medium-bodied, 2,500 yen/750 ml) and Calvet Premiere Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 1998 (white dry, 2,500 yen/750 ml). A 750 ml bottle of the Australian wine Penfolds Rawson's Retreat Chardonnay 1999 (white dry) will retail for 1,170 yen .

Suntory Improves Boss Black


Suntory will release a new and improved version of its popular Boss Black canned coffee on June 20. The new beverage is tastier and the logo on its container is larger to give it a stronger presence in the marketplace. Boss Black is the top seller among all brands of unsweetened black canned coffee, with year-on-year sales showing a growth of 14% last April. A 190g can of Boss Black retails for 115 yen .

Suntory Revises DAKARA Sales Target


The FY2000 sales target for Suntory's new DAKARA health drink has been revised upward from 10 million cases to 18 million cases.
An estimated 2.5 million cases of DAKARA have been sold since the product was launched in March of this year. The product helps control fat, salt and calorie intake, while supplementing calcium, magnesium and food fiber, which are important to human body .

Suntory Announces Suntory Prize Winners


The Suntory Foundation has decided to present its Suntory Prize for Community Cultural Activities to five domestic organizations: the Yokohama Film Festival, Hamamatsu Symphony Orchestra, Haza Cultural Association, Kasho Takabatake's Taisho Romantic Museum and Tosa Ekin Kabuki Oral Tradition Group. The award ceremony will be held on June 23 in Osaka.
The Suntory Prize for Community Cultural Activities is awarded to individuals and organizations for outstanding contributions to the cultural life of their communities in the fields of art, publishing, traditional culture, urban development and everyday life .

Suntory to Market Summer Gifts


In mid-May, Suntory will begin marketing its mainstay products in special gift sets for Japan's "Ochugen" Summer Gift-giving season. The products include 63 whisky and brandy items, such as HIBIKI, YAMAZAKI, HAKUSHYU, ROYAL, ZEN and X ?E O.; 10 beer products, including MALT'S and MAGNUM DRY; two domestic wines-SAISHOKU KENBI and WINE CAFE, and 11 imported wines from France, the United States, Italy, Chile and Germany. Non-alcoholic gift sets include six orange juice products, such as 100% JUICE and NACCHAN.

Suntory Beer Garden to Open


Suntory Beer Garden is about to open again for the Summer season. The facility, located atop Suntory Building in Akasaka, will remain open from June 1 until August 31. It has a seating capacity for up to 300. Opened in 1975, the beer garden has been an oasis for Tokyo's harried salaried workers, who can enjoy the finest draft beer and sunset views. An 'all-you-can-drink' set menu, includes B.B.Q beef, chicken and other snacks. It is available for 3,500 yen (up to 2 hours) with a reservation. The beer garden is open every day from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. except for Sunday, holidays and rainy days.

Suntory Yamanashi Winery Hosting Classic Concert


Suntory Yamanashi Winery will hold a flower festival May 27-June 18 (Hours: 9:30 Suntory Yamanashi Winery will invite 300 people to a classical music concert to be held in its barrel storage area on July 2. The concert will feature 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusik' and other popular numbers, performed by the Romeo Quartet orchestra. The orchestra will perform twice (at 12:00- & 14:00-). Those wishing to attend must submit applications by June 9.

Flower Festival at Suntory Yamanashi Winery


Suntory Yamanashi Winery will hold a flower festival May 27-June 18 (Hours: 9:30 and 16:40). The festival will feature the following activities: [Gardening Lesson] (May 28 & June 4) at 12:00-12:40 & 1:30-2:10 at Terrace Stage. Up to 30 people may attend each session; the charge is 1,500 yen,

[The Making of Wine Tour] Daily every 30 minutes between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Winery (free of charge). Visitors can also purchase a bottle of wine, with a personalized label bearing their photo taken at the winery, for only 1,500 yen.

Suntory Changing Diet Pepsi


Suntory will revise the taste of its Diet Pepsi from May 23 and also start a promotional campaign for the new product at the same time. The new Diet Pepsi uses a sweetener called ASK, which contains no calories and also increases the product's shelf life to six months, in the case of plastic containers, and seven months in the case of cans. The previous shelf life was around four months for both products. The package design will be revised as well. Every 500 ml plastic container of Diet Pepsi and Pepsi-Cola will come with a 'Pepsiman' bottle cap figurine during the campaign, which ends on June 1st. A total of 15 different bottle cap figurines are available.

Suntory Adopting New Environment-friendly Bottle


Suntory will begin marketing its Reserve 10 Years whisky in a new environment-friendly container from the end of June. The container is made of mixed color glass, which the company succeeded in making using its own proprietary technology. The bottle as well as the cap and labeling will be made of recycled materials.
. Suntory has been bottling its whisky in recycled glass containers since 1993 and it has been doing the same for all its domestic table wines since 1999.

Suntory Brandy V.O. Present Campaign


Suntory will conduct a promotional campaign for its V.O. brandy from mid-May until mid-June. During that period, every bottle of Suntory Brandy V.O. will come with an original mobile phone strap featuring a mini V.O. bottle. A 640 ml bottle of Suntory Brandy V.O. retails for 1,000 yen .

Suntory to Start Royal Collection Present Campaign


Suntory will launch a promotional campaign for its Whisky Royal 12 Years and Whisky Royal Premium 15 Years from mid-May until July 10. During that time, the company will give away a bottle of its Royal Premium 15 Years whisky and a pair of initialed crystal rock glass to 5,000 people.
Suntory Whisky Royal has been one of Japan's premier whisky products for over 40 years. A 700 ml bottle of Suntory Whisky Royal 12 Years retails for 3,000 yen, while a 660 ml bottle sells for 2,460 yen. Suntory Whisky Premium 15 Years sells for 4,530 yen and 3,700 yen, respectively, for the same size bottles .

SUPER HOP'S Original Leisure Goods Present Campaign


Suntory will launch a SUPER HOP'S present campaign from the end of May. During the campaign, a set of leisure goods bearing the SUPER HOP'S logo will be given away to 10,000 applicants. The set includes a tote bag, portable cooler bag, quilted mat and large beach towel. To obtain the set, applicants must collect three to six proof-of-purchase stickers, which are affixed to cans (350 ml, 500 ml and 1,000 ml) of SUPER HOP'S. The campaign concludes on July 31 .

Suntory Introducing New Brand of Shochu


Suntory will begin marketing SOREKARA, a new dry barley shochu, from May 16. The product will initially be sold in the following regions of Japan: Tokai (excluding Shizuoka), Hokuriku, Kinki, Chugoku and Shikoku. It will also be sold in Fukuoka, Saga and Nagasaki prefectures. A 720ml bottle of SOREKARA will retail for 1,180 yen.

Suntory Sell Super Hop's MAGNUM DRY in 633ml Bottle


Suntory will begin selling Super Hop's MAGNUM DRY beer in a new 633ml glass bottle on May 25. The product is currently available in mini can (250 ml), regular can (350 ml), long can (500 ml) and jumbo can (1,000 ml) sizes. A 633ml bottle of MAGNUM DRY will retail for 240 yen.
MAGNUM DRY sold 20 million cases in only 10 months after its launch. Also, sales of the product in March and April have exceeded that of the most selling season, July last year .

Suntory Introducing New Canned Cocktails for Summer


Suntory will begin marketing two new canned cocktails-Philippines-san no Mango-shu and Hawaii-san no Pink Guava-shu-on May 23, just in time for the summer season. The products are being added to Suntory's Totteoki Kajitsuno Osake line of cocktail beverages and a 250ml can will retail for 194 yen. At the same time, the company will begin selling Kishu-san no Ume-shu (plum flavor) in a 500ml plastic bottle for 290 yen .
