No. 7682 June 29 Suntory's Yamanashi Winery will offer free guided tours of its vineyard each weekend (Sat. & Sun.) from July 22 until August 20. Participants will have a chance to amble through the country's biggest vineyard and learn about the year-long grape growing process, which begins with fertilizing soil in winter. The tour is 30 minutes long and begins at 1 p.m. No. 7680 June 27 Suntory will invite children above Grade 3 and their parents
to tour the company's beer factories in Musashino (Tokyo),
Kyoto and Tonegawa (Gunma) to view the company's environment-friendly
operations. The trip is free of charge and it will be held
during the summer season between July and August. Participants
will be able to see how Suntory beer is brewed and also view
operational changes that have enabled the company to recycle
100% of its beer-making by-products since 1998. No. 7679 June 27 On July 1, Suntory will begin exhibiting and selling furniture made of oak barrels once used to store Suntory whisky. Tables, cabinets, chairs, plant containers and other items will be displayed and sold at a new company-owned store located Meguro. Suntory has been recycling its wooden casks and making high-quality, reasonably priced furniture out of them since 1998. The shop will be open every day from 10:00 to 18:00. No. 7678 June 22 Suntory and Suntory Foods will invite professional bartenders to compete in Suntory the Cocktail Competition 2000. The contest will consist of three sections, including a short dry cocktail, short sweet cocktail and long cocktail. The final round of competition will take place October 19 at Akasaka Prince Hotel in Tokyo following two preliminary rounds. The winner will receive a trophy, certificate and a free trip to Italy and France, where further training in the art of drink mixing will be offered. The deadline for applying for the competition is August 10. No. 7677 June 20 Suntory will start selling The Cocktail Bar Apple Kiss from July 4. The product is an apple-flavored vodka-based cocktail. The Cocktail Bar sold a total of 500 million bottles in FY1999, making it the top brand among low-alcohol beverages. A 200ml bottle of Apple Kiss will retail for 210 yen. No. 7676 June 20 Suntory will simultaneously launch two Pepsiman bottle cap figure present campaigns from mid-July. The latest crop of bottle cap figures feature various monsters encountering Pepsiman. During the course of the first campaign, every 500ml bottle of Pepsi or Diet Pepsi will come with 15 different types of bottle cap figures, including two secret characters that glow in the dark. Nine different figures will be offered during the second campaign-starting in mid-August-with every purchase of a 1.5 liter-sized bottle of Pepsi. Both campaigns will last two weeks.

Chabot series of brandy products from June 27.
Chabot is the top-selling
brandy in France. It is also the top brand among all Armagnac
products sold in 96 different countries around the world since
1828.
No. 7674 June 20 Suntory will market Hokkaido-san no Yubari-Melon-shu in a 500ml plastic bottle from July 4. The product has been a long-time staple of Suntory's Totteoki Kajitsu no Osake series. Four other items, including Kyoho grape, Litchi, White Peach and Plum, are currently available in the 500ml-size. A 500ml plastic bottle of the product will retail for 290 yen. No. 7673 June 20 Suntory will begin marketing a variety
of imported wines starting on July 11. The products include: No. 7672 June 20 Sales of DAKARA supplement water exceeded 100 million cans in just the first three months following the product's introduction in March. As a result, Suntory has revised its goal of selling 10 million cases by mid-May this year to 18 million cases. To further promote sales, Suntory will introduce DAKARA in two new sizes. A 330 ml paper pack version (105 yen) will be introduced from July 18 and a 410 g bottled version (130 yen), with a recyclable aluminum cap, will hit store shelves on July 4. No. 7671 June 20 Suntory will start selling four types of Latin spirits suitable for summer cocktails. The spirits will include Cachacça 51 (700ml: 980 yen, 1,000 ml: 1,300 yen, 50 ml: 160 yen), a sugar cane-based spirit from Brazil, Terry Centenario (700ml: 1,690 yen) and Carlos I (700 ml: 4,760 yen) of Spain, to be launched on June 27, and Passimo, a French passion fruit liqueur (700 ml: 2,400 yen, 50 ml: 380 yen) to be marketed from July 12. No. 7670 June 19 Suntory will begin marketing MALT'S Shimizu S-Pulse Label from July 7 only in the Shizuoka area. The product features a picture of Shimizu S-Pulse, a local professional soccer team, on the can. Sales of MALT'S are growing steadily, posting a 6% rise in the first five months of this year compared to the same period a year ago. A 500ml bottle of MALT'S Shimizu S-Pulse Label will retail for 267 yen. No. 7668 Jun. 13 On August 8, Suntory will begin selling ROYAL Premium 15 Years/2000 Suntory Open (a 500ml bottle decorated with a budgerigar motif, retails for 10,000 yen) and ROYAL 12 Years/2000 Suntory Open (a 100ml bottle in the shape of a golf ball, retails for 1,400 yen) to commemorate the 28th Suntory Open Golf Tournament to be held from September 6 through September 10. No. 7667 Jun. 13 On June 20, Suntory will expand its liqueur product line by
introducing CAMPARI and PARAISO LITCHI in a 200ml bottle.
The products will retail for 600 yen and 880 yen, respectively. No. 7666 Jun. 13 Suntory will begin marketing Skalli's FORTANT
DE FRANCE Sauvignon Blanc [Fraicheur] on July 4.
The product is made from carefully selected grapes harvested
in 1999. A 750ml bottle will retail for 1,070 yen. No. 7665 Jun. 13 On June 27, Suntory will begin marketing an improved version of its Japanese tea drink dubbed "ZOKU NOHOHON CHA." The product has been selling well, thanks in part to a popular TV ad campaign starring Hollywood film star Meg Ryan, who is well-liked in Japan. From June 27 through July 31, Suntory will give away 1,000 Yukata kimono, identical to the one worn by Ryan in the TV spot. To win, consumers must collect three proof-of-purchase seals from 500ml plastic bottles of the product and mail them in to Suntory. A drawing will then be held to select the lucky winners. (Note: Each 500ml plastic bottle of the product comes with one seal.). No. 7664 Jun. 13 On June 20, Suntory will begin marketing MACALLAN 15 Years (750ml: 15,000 yen), MACALLAN GRAN RESERVA 18 Years (700ml: 25,000 yen), MACALLAN 30 Years (700ml: 99,000 yen) and MACALLAN 50 Years (750ml: 700,000 yen). MACALLAN is one of a variety of superb single malt whiskies imported by Suntory. It has been described as the Roll's Royce of malt whiskies . No. 7662 June 6 Suntory has selected Ms. Miho Yoshioka as its new D-Hi Komachi for 2000. D-Hi Komachi is the name given to a "campaign girl" who will appear in advertisements promoting the company's "D-Hi" cocktail. The drink, basically a large highball ("D" is for "dekkai," which means big in Japanese), was created by Suntory in 1998 in order to promote its whisky products. A highball is comprised of whisky, soda and lemon. Ms. Yoshiko is the third D-Hi campaign girl chosen by Suntory. She currently appears widely on TV variety programs and in print advertisements . No. 7662 June 6 Suntory will add a mint flavor to its line of Gomenne
tablet candy on June 27. A 7.5g package of Mint
Tablet Gomenne (sugarless) will retail for 150
yen. Five flavors are currently available, including muscat,
peach, grapefruit, litchi, and tropical fruit. No. 7661 June 6 Suntory will start selling La Chaâsse Du Pape Coôtes Du Rhoône Red & White, Laurus Gigondas 1997 and Laurus Chaâteauneuf-du-Pape 1997 imported from the Gabriel Meffre winery in France on June 13. A 750 ml bottle of La Chaâsse Du Pape Coôtes Du Rhoône, both red (medium-bodied) & white (dry) will retail for 980 yen, while a 750 ml bottle of Laurus Gigondas 1997 (red & full-bodied) and Laurus Chaâteauneuf-du-Pape 1997 (red & full-bodied) will sell for 3,400 yen and 4,800 yen respectively . No. 7660 June 6 Suntory will begin marketing an improved version of its Hakushu
12 Years pure malt whisky on June 20. The new product
features a smoother taste and a smoky flavor. It has been
made with a new distiller installed by Suntory. Launched in
1994, Hakushu 12 Years,
helps commemorate 70 years of whisky-making tradition at Suntory. No. 7656 June 6 Japan's mineral water market grew by a whopping 30% in 1999,
with consumers downing a record 1,132,000 kiloliters of the
natural beverage during the year. Suntory's Minami
Alps no Tennensui mineral water sold 18.4 million
(219,000 kiloliters) cases, up 30% from the previous year,
making it the top-selling brand in the market. |
