Suntory Institute for Advanced Technology together with Kitazato University, Department of Science has successfully deciphered Genome of Beer Yeast for the first time in world's history. From this result Suntory is currently working on performance analysis of beer yeast gene on brewing. Cooperation with institutes outside Suntory is planned and once PA is over genome sequence data will be made public. No. 8271 September 27 Suntory Music Foundation will hold a concert of Mr. Toshi Ichiyanagi, a composer and a winner of the 33rd Suntory Music Award, on October 30 at Izumi Hall, Osaka. No. 8270 September 27 Suntory at its plant in Kyoto will open a new beer class to let the customers know about its beer brewery process with best raw ingredients and quality. No. 8269 September 25 The Suntory Foundation has begun accepting entries for its annual "foreign
publication fund." Each year Suntory funds the translation of specific
literary works into foreign languages. It also supports the overseas publication
of works in the field of social cultural sciences in order to promote
cultural exchange and improve international understanding of Japan. The
total amount of funding is 50 million yen. It usually split up among 10
recipients. No. 8268 September 25 Suntory starts "ZEN: Whisky-and-Water Blender Present Campaign" from beginning of October. One blender is obtained per each 640ml ZEN bottle (1200yen). Suntory whisky ZEN has been popular among people in their twenties and thirties and women for its dry flavorful taste as Japanese whisky. The taste is produced by filtering whisky with bamboo charcoal. No. 8266 September 24 From October 15, LIPTON MORNING, a light tasting milk tea, will be available in 340g and 250g cans, joining the current 280g can of LIPTON ROYAL MILK TEA, which will be reintroduced in a classy new package. All three sizes will retail for 115 yen. No. 8265 September 24 On October 15, Suntory will begin marketing CHUGOKU RYOKUCHA KAMAIRI-JITATE, seasonal Chinese tea with crisp and sweet aroma. The product will be available in 400ml bottle-cans for 130 yen. The original CHUGOKU RYOKUCHA has been popular as a new type of non-sugar tea. No. 8263 September 20 Suntory will celebrate the Yomiuri Giants' capture of the Japan Central League baseball championship with the launch of a commemorative beer. Available in 350ml cans for 218 yen, the beer will go on sale the day following the official championship announcement. No. 8264 September 17 Effective September 18, Suntory will make several changes in organization and personnel. Major organizational changes include the establishment of the Corporate Communications Department, the newly integrated Financial and Accounting Department, and the addition of the Whisky Department in the Liquor Sector. No. 8262 September 17 The 70th issue of SUNTORY QUARTERLY (500 yen including tax) is now available at selected bookstores throughout Tokyo and the Kanagawa district. This issue features essays by distinguished writers and film directors on unique bars they have encountered during their travels. No. 8259 September 10 On September 24, Suntory will begin marketing two new COCKTAIL BAR CB products, CHINA BLUE and MANGO MARGARITA, both available in 250ml bottles for 210 yen. The new drinks reflect the recent demand for "Asian" cocktails among young consumers. No. 8258 September 10 On September 27, Suntory will begin marketing HENKOTSUYA, a new shochu liquor from Kagoshima Prefecture. The product, sold in 660ml bottles for 950 yen, contains 25% alcohol for a rich yet sharp taste. HENKOTSUYA means "stubborn person" in Osaka dialect. No. 8257 September 10 On October 8, Suntory will begin marketing PEPSI COLA in 500ml bottle-shaped cans featuring British soccer star David Beckham. The package will be in available in two designs: one with Beckham's autograph and the other with an exclusive "I LOVE JAPAN" message. Priced at 140 yen, the product will be sold for a limited time only. No. 8256 September 10 Suntory will introduce six soft drink products for the fall/winter season. The lineup includes: HOT CHUGOKU RYOKUCHA (Chinese green tea) in 280ml plastic bottles for 130 yen; HOT RYOKUSUI (Japanese green tea) in 345ml plastic bottles for 130 yen; HOT OOLONG TEA in 345ml plastic bottles for 130 yen; LATTE LATTE HOT CAFFE LATTE in 280ml plastic bottles for 134 yen; LIPTON LIMONE HOT in 300ml plastic bottles for 130 yen; and NACCHAN HOT LEMON in 280ml plastic bottles for 124 yen.All products will be available from September 24 except LIPTON LIMONE and NACCHAN HOT LEMON, which will be marketed starting October 1. No. 8255 September 10 On September 24, Suntory will begin marketing KYOHO-GRE, a new low-alcohol (5%) fruit liquor made from grapefruit and Kyoho grapes. The drink will be available in 350ml and 500ml cans that will retail for 145 and 195 yen, respectively. No. 8254 September 10 On October 1, Suntory will begin marketing new versions of its lemon and grapefruit SUPER CHUHAI. The new versions highlight the flavor of fresh fruit and boast a more natural, easy-to-drink taste. Packaging has also been re-designed to reflect a friendlier product image. Both flavors, in 350ml and 500ml cans, will retail for 140 yen and 190 yen each. The lemon SUPER CHUHAI will also be sold in 250ml cans for 115 yen. No. 8253 September 9 Suntory and 7-Eleven will begin marketing BEAUJOLAIS-VILLAGES NOUVEAU 2002-CUVEE SPECIALE, co-produced by Georges Duboeuf of France, starting from November 21, when this year's Beaujolais embargo is removed. The product will be sold exclusively at 6,600 7-Eleven locations nationwide. A 750ml bottle will retail for 2,480 yen. No. 8250 September 3 On October 8, Suntory will begin marketing FUYU-DORAKU, a low malt beer sold only during the winter season. Introduced two years ago, the mild beer goes well with typical Japanese winter dishes, such as nabe or oden. A 500ml can sells for 185 yen, while a 350ml can retails for 135 yen. No. 8249 September 3 On September 17, Suntory will introduce a new version of its ROYAL 12 Reserve, a premium whisky that has been on the market for more than 40 years. Available in newly designed champagne-gold bottles, the whisky has undergone a new filtering process to attain a smooth yet full-bodied taste. The product will retail for 3,000 yen (700ml), 2,460 yen (660ml), 980 yen (180ml) and 400 yen (50ml). No. 8251 September 2 On October 1, newly established Suntory (Thailand) Limited will begin operations in Bangkok, with Akio Mizutani serving as managing director. The company aims to expand Suntory's liquor sales in Thailand, targeting especially the country's growing whisky market. |
