Maria Lugossy was born in Budapest in 1950. She learned to sculpt metal at the Academy of Applied Arts. Today, she is a world-famous glass artist. This object was made by bonding layers of transparent sheet glass and employing sand-blasting and polishing techniques. It is shaped like a lens, and the pale green color reminds one of sea water. Under a wave, there are fetus-like shapes. This object expresses the beauty of the sea, the origin of life, and the splendor of maternity. The Suntory Prize was awarded to this work in 1990.
