Muromachi period

A waterfall and rocks are depicted on the left-hand side of the screen and a weasel is pictured sitting under a pine tree. Autumn plants, such as cockscomb, chrysanthemum, Japanese medlar, and wild rose, as well as various birds, are depicted in a decorative manner. The screen was once paired with another six-fold screen which is housed in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In the lower left-hand corner of the screen, the red seals "Mo-in" and "Korenobu" indicate the painter. Unfortunately, little is known about this person. He might have been a younger brother of Kano Motonobu (1476-1559). These seals also appear on several other paintings.
