This set of handscrolls tells the story of Minamoto-no-Yorimitsu, who with the help of Fujiwara-no-Yasumasa and the Four Guardians(Watanabe-no-Tsuna, Sakata-no-Kintoki, Usui Sadamitsu and Urabe-no-Suetake), vanquished the maiden-abducting goblin Shutendoji. At the request of Hojo Ujitsuna of Odawara(1486-1541), Konoe Naomichi(1472-1544), Johoji Kojo(1453-1538) and Shoren'in Sonchin(1504-1550) wrote the explanatory notes. The paintings were done by Kano Motonobu(1476-1559) and his students. Since the inscription was written by Sanjonishi Sanetaka(1455-1537) in the 4th year of Kyoroku(1531), the handscrolls must have been completed by that time. This work has been the property of the Ikeda family of the Province of Inshu.
