This basin was used for washing the face and shaving. It has four extended handles to be held by two assistants. The entire surface is coated with black lacquer. The side of the basin is decorated with autumn plants such as chrysanthemum,Chinese bellflowers,patrinia,and pampas grass,with flat maki-e and e-nashiji techniques. Needle engraving is partially used. The rim and foot are covered with gilt bronze for reinforcement and ornamentation. The tip of the handle is fitted with metal which has a scrolling arabesque design on a fish-roe patterned ground.
