Height: 45.5
16th-l7th centuries, Netherlands

This large, lacy glass façon de Venise goblet must have been regarded as a showpiece. The lacy glass is made by fusing opaque and transparent glass and then, twisting and drawing them to produce glass rods in different spiral patterns. These rods are then placed one by one on a mold into which transparent glass is blown, giving the glass rods a fused effect. This object was presumably produced in the southern part of the Netherlands.
